Introduction and Overview
Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi is a public university located in Iasi, Iasi County, Moldova Region, western Romania. It is classified as a university of advanced research and education by the Romanian Ministry of Education. It has the oldest tradition in the field of engineering education in Romania and is a member of the Romanian Association of Technical Universities (ARUT).
History and establishment time
In 1813, scholar Gheorghe Asachi opened a Romanian-language higher education course in the Prince's College in Iasi, namely the School of Surveying and Civil Engineers.
In November 1910, an independent Industrial Electricity School was established in the Faculty of Science of the University of Iasi, which was later renamed the Institute of Electrical Engineering. It was the first school of its kind in Romania.
In November 1912, the Departments of Electrical Engineering, Applied Chemistry and Agronomy were established in the Faculty of Science, marking the birth of the later Polytechnic School of Iasi.
In March 1937, the Romanian Parliament passed a new education law, and the technical higher education department of the University of Iaşi was reorganized into a college and integrated into the newly established Gheorghe Asaç Polytechnic School.
In 1948, it was renamed Gheorghe Asaç Polytechnic Institute, and the Agricultural College became independent as the Iaşi Agricultural College.
On May 17, 1993, the Iaşi Polytechnic Institute was renamed Gheorghe Asaçi Technical University.
