Established on September 5, 1964.

Nature of institution: National university, funded and managed by the Ivorian government, a non-profit higher education institution.

In 1996, the National University of Abidjan was reorganized and the original main campus was renamed the University of Kokodi.

In 2012, the school was officially renamed the University of Felix Houphouet-Boigny.
