Basic Overview

Established on September 5, 1964.

Nature of institution: National university, funded and managed by the Ivorian government, a non-profit higher education institution.

Geographical location: Located in the Cocodi district of Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast.

Historical evolution

It was formerly the Abidjan Higher Education Center and the Abidjan Literature School established by France in 1958.

In 1964, the Ivorian government merged and upgraded these two institutions into a university, which became the main campus of the Abidjan National University system.

In 1996, the National University of Abidjan was reorganized and the original main campus was renamed the University of Kokodi.

In 2012, the school was officially renamed the University of Felix Houphouet-Boigny.
