Introduction and Overview: The University of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal is a higher education institution in South Sudan, located in Aweil, Northern Bahr El-Ghazal State, South Sudan.

History:

On April 12, 2005, the Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, Moses Machar, visited Aweil and announced that a university would be established there.

In 2006, the First Vice President and Chairman of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir, reiterated this decision.

In 2010, the President was appointed by presidential decree and the University Act was amended. In December of the same year, the President, Academic Secretary, Treasurer, Personnel Secretary, Deans of 4 Faculties and support staff were appointed.

In January 2011, the University Coordination Office was opened in Akwet, Khartoum. In February, the University Administrative Office was established in Aweil and two campus sites were acquired. In the same year, the university planned to enroll its first batch of students.
