Hangzhou Normal University is a key university in Zhejiang Province. It is a comprehensive university with a tradition of teacher education, equal emphasis on liberal arts and science, and coordinated development of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. The predecessor of the school can be traced back to the Zhejiang Government Two-Level Normal School, one of the six national higher normal schools founded in 1908. Hangzhou Normal College was established in 1978. Around 2000, five schools including Hangzhou Education College were successively merged. In 2007, it was renamed Hangzhou Normal University. In the course of a hundred years of running schools, Hangzhou Normal University has always kept pace with the times and shared the fate of the nation. It has promoted culture and education, and has passed on from generation to generation. It has been self-reliant and never stopped singing. It has adhered to the inheritance of the school motto of "diligence, prudence, sincerity, forgiveness, broad-mindedness and diligence", and carried forward the spirit of the Normal University of "tolerance, openness, learning and progress, and pursuit of excellence", forming the school characteristics of "humanities school, art campus". Famous teachers such as Lu Xun, Li Shutong, Ye Shengtao, Zhu Ziqing, and Xia Yizun have taught at the school, and have cultivated outstanding alumni with outstanding achievements in various fields such as Feng Zikai, Pan Tianshou, and Chen Jiangong. It became the source of the new cultural movement in Zhejiang at that time and the earliest main position for spreading democratic scientific ideas. It is one of the birthplaces of modern Chinese education, modern Chinese art education, and the early activities of the Communist Party of China. Bathed in the spring breeze of reform and opening up, the school keeps pace with the development of the times, and its school-running capabilities are constantly improving. In the new era, a large number of outstanding talents have emerged, including Cai Ronggen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jack Ma, an innovator in the digital economy. The school has a beautiful environment and beautiful scenery. It currently has three campuses: Cangqian, Yuhuangshan, and Xiasha, located in Hangzhou Future Science and Technology City, the shore of West Lake, and the bank of Qiantang River, respectively, covering an area of 1.9234 million square meters. The university consists of 24 colleges (departments) and 2 directly affiliated hospitals (Hangzhou Normal University Affiliated Hospital and Hangzhou Normal University Jiande Hospital). There are more than 31,000 full-time students (excluding independent colleges), including nearly 6,000 full-time master's students, 96 doctoral students, and nearly 300 international students. There are 2,614 faculty members, including 1,932 full-time teachers (78% of them are doctoral students), nearly 80 national and provincial high-level talents such as full-time academicians, shared academicians, Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, and winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. The school has been selected as the first batch of provincial overseas high-level talent innovation and entrepreneurship bases. The school currently has 1 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point and 1 professional degree doctoral authorization point; 23 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 21 professional degree master's degree authorization points. 13 disciplines including chemistry, clinical medicine, botany and zoology, neuroscience and behavior, engineering, materials science, environment and ecology, biology and biochemistry, mathematics, agricultural science, pharmacology and toxicology, psychiatry and psychology, and general social sciences are among the top 1% in the ESI world, among which chemistry, mathematics, botany and zoology are among the top 5‰. The school is an implementation unit of the reform project of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Teacher Training Program, the first batch of local implementation universities of the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, and the first batch of national innovation and entrepreneurship typical experience universities. In recent years, it has won 14 national teaching achievement awards. Since 2012, the university has obtained three national major scientific research program projects and national key R&D program projects. The university currently has 28 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering research centers, international science and technology cooperation bases, "2011" collaborative innovation centers, science and technology innovation service platforms, soft science research bases, philosophy and society bases, think tanks, etc., 11 provincial and ministerial innovation teams, 12 international cooperation research platforms, and the university science and technology park has been recognized as "National University Science and Technology Park", "National Science and Technology Enterprise Incubator", "National Recorded Innovation Space", etc. The school has a non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperative institution, Hangzhou Normal University Kharkiv College, which has established inter-school cooperation and exchange relations with more than 30 universities in the United States, Britain, Japan, Australia, Taiwan and other countries and regions. It has the qualifications to recruit and train international students in China and is one of the first batch of pilot institutions for quality certification of studying in China.
