Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1954. It is a national "double first-class" construction university, a Jiangsu high-level university construction university (Class A), and a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school is one of the earliest higher Chinese medicine colleges in the country. It has trained the first batch of teachers for the higher Chinese medicine education in New China, compiled the first set of textbooks, and formulated the first version of the teaching syllabus. It has made pioneering contributions to the establishment and promotion of the higher Chinese medicine education model in New China and is known as the "cradle of higher Chinese medicine education". The school has three campuses in Xianlin, Hanzhongmen and Taizhou. It has 11 colleges and teaching institutions such as the first, second and third clinical medical schools, 15 affiliated hospitals and 3 affiliated pharmaceutical companies. The school currently has more than 20,000 students and nearly 2,000 faculty and staff. The school adheres to the coordinated development of Chinese medicine as the main body, the combination of Chinese and Western medicine, and multi-disciplinary support. Adhering to the school-running philosophy of "learning from both Chinese and Western medicine, and being precise and sincere", it insists on inheriting the essence and maintaining integrity and innovation. The school currently has 1 national "Double First-Class" construction discipline, 3 national key disciplines, 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines, 4 advantageous disciplines of Jiangsu universities, 8 provincial key disciplines in the "14th Five-Year Plan", and 33 key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school is one of the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding institutions in the country, with 4 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, 12 first-level master's degree authorization points and 6 master's professional degree authorization points, and 3 postdoctoral research mobile stations. The fifth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education has achieved excellent results, and the main disciplines such as traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine are among the best in the country. Six disciplines including pharmacology and toxicology, clinical medicine, chemistry, biology and biochemistry, and neuroscience and behavior entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, among which pharmacology and toxicology entered the top 1‰ of ESI. The school was selected into the USNews "World's Best University Rankings". From 2020 to 2022, traditional Chinese medicine ranked first in the Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking. Since 2016, the school has ranked first among Chinese medicine colleges in China in the comprehensive ranking of "China University Evaluation" for 7 consecutive years. The school has always adhered to the implementation of the "talent-strengthening school" strategy, with strong faculty, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, national medical masters, "Changjiang Scholars" distinguished professors, "973" project chief scientists, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, members of the State Council's discipline review group, national famous Chinese medicine practitioners, Qihuang scholars of the "Hundreds of Millions" talent project for the inheritance and innovation of Chinese medicine, and national candidates for the Hundreds of Millions Project, etc. A group of well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad have built a first-class faculty team with rich development potential and innovative vitality, mainly composed of young and middle-aged teachers. The school continues to deepen the reform of education and teaching, and strives to cultivate first-class talents with both moral integrity and ability. There are 37 undergraduate majors, involving 6 disciplines of medicine, management, science, engineering, economics, and literature. Among them, there are 10 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 19 provincial first-class major construction sites, and 10 Jiangsu brand majors. The school cooperates with well-known institutions and enterprises such as the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Kangyuan Pharmaceutical to jointly train outstanding doctors (9-year undergraduate and doctoral programs in traditional Chinese medicine, "5+3" outstanding innovative talents), outstanding scientists (top innovative talents in the "4+5" undergraduate and doctoral programs in traditional Chinese medicine) and outstanding engineers (top applied talents in traditional Chinese medicine/pharmacy undergraduate and master programs). The school focuses on the country's major strategic needs and serves economic and social development with scientific and technological innovation. It has a national key laboratory for Chinese medicine pharmaceutical process control and intelligent manufacturing technology, a national key laboratory cultivation and construction site, an engineering research center of the National Development and Reform Commission, a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, an engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, a key laboratory of Jiangsu Province, a collaborative innovation center of Jiangsu Province, an engineering research center of Jiangsu Province (engineering laboratory), a key laboratory of Jiangsu universities, a key research base of philosophy and social sciences in Jiangsu universities, and a national technology transfer demonstration center. In recent years, the total number of major national science and technology projects, national natural science foundation projects, and national social science foundation projects undertaken by the school ranks among the top in the country's traditional Chinese medicine colleges and universities. The school actively integrates into the world trend and continuously improves the internationalization level of traditional Chinese medicine education and cultural exchanges. On June 20, 2010, President Xi Jinping attended the unveiling ceremony of the Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly established by our school and RMIT and delivered an important speech, highly praising the school's educational level. The school is a traditional medicine cooperation center of the World Health Organization and an international acupuncture training center. It is one of the first batch of higher Chinese medicine colleges approved by the Ministry of Education to accept and train foreign students and students from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, and has trained more than 30,000 international students. The school has exchanges and cooperation with colleges and universities or academic groups and institutions in more than 90 countries and regions, and has established 8 overseas Chinese medicine centers. The Swiss University of Chinese Medicine hosted by our school is the only Chinese medicine university officially recognized by Switzerland, and it is also the first independent Chinese medicine university in Europe that can award bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in Chinese medicine. Based on the new development stage, the school will thoroughly implement the new development concept, build a new development pattern, take root in Jiangsu, face the whole country, and go to the world.
