Hunan Institute of Technology is a full-time undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1994 and was then called Changde Computer Technology School. In 1998, it became a pilot institution for higher education diplomas and was renamed Changde Computer University. In 2004, it was upgraded to a national unified college and renamed Hunan Tongde Vocational College. In 2014, it was upgraded to a national unified undergraduate college and renamed Hunan Institute of Technology. The school currently has two campuses, East and West, with a total planned area of 2,146.07 acres. The current campus covers an area of 1,765.28 acres, with a total building area of 514,800 square meters, including more than 181,700 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, 1.575 million paper books, and 1.26 million electronic books. Broadband network and WIFI cover the entire school. The school currently has 928 faculty members, including 539 full-time teachers, 278 external teachers, 450 with master's and doctoral degrees, and 84 teachers with senior professional titles; there are 14,875 full-time students, including 12,312 undergraduates and 2,563 junior college students. The school has the College of Agriculture and Forestry Science and Technology, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the College of Economics and Management, the College of Design and Art, the College of Information Engineering, the College of Foreign Languages, the College of Culture and Media, the College of Marxism, the College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employment, the College of Continuing Education, and the Department of Physical Education and Health Teaching and Research. It has 23 undergraduate majors such as gardening, aquaculture, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, and Internet of Things Engineering, as well as 13 junior college majors such as digital media art design and business English. Since its promotion to a university in 2014, the school has insisted on co-building a practical teaching platform with internal and external collaboration, and has further promoted the deep integration of production and education, and the school-enterprise collaborative education mechanism. The school has successively carried out in-depth school-enterprise cooperation with Xiangyun Biotechnology, China Ordnance Jianglu Electromechanical Group Co., Ltd. and other enterprises, and has signed school-enterprise and school-local joint school-running and industry-university-research-use collaborative education agreements with nearly 170 social-related enterprises and various government agencies, and has built 98 stable internship and training bases with industry enterprises. 13 engineering practice bases have been built, 7 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education centers, 6 provincial school-enterprise cooperation innovation and entrepreneurship bases, and 1 Hunan University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Demonstration Base; strengthen teaching resources, especially the construction of on-campus experimental training conditions, scientifically integrate on-campus resources, build 173 on-campus professional experimental (training) rooms, 45 innovation and entrepreneurship studios, 1 master studio, and 6 on-campus and off-campus entrepreneurial incubation bases, which have formed an on-campus experimental training system with the school's seven major experimental training centers (training fields) as the main body, which can basically meet the practical teaching needs of the school's majors. West Campus East Campus At present, the school is mainly engaged in undergraduate education. In terms of discipline and major settings, it has determined the idea of building a discipline and major system with agricultural science as the feature, engineering and management as the main body, and coordinated development of agriculture, engineering, management, economics, literature, and art. The construction of disciplines and majors has made new progress. There is currently one provincial "double first-class" application characteristic discipline, three provincial "first-class" majors, and one provincial "13th Five-Year Plan" comprehensive reform pilot major. Five disciplines, including aquaculture, design, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, administrative management, and computer application technology, are listed as key disciplines for school construction; three disciplines, including English, Chinese language and literature, and Marxist theory, are listed as key disciplines for school cultivation in the "14th Five-Year Plan". Five majors, including "Garden", "Aquaculture", "Administrative Management", "Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation", and "Environmental Design", have been established as first-class professional construction points at the school level. 14 courses, including "Introduction to Garden Design", "University Computer", and "Basics of Photography", have been established as provincial first-class courses, and 13 courses, including "Decorative Drawing Recognition and Drawing" and "Electrical and Electronic Technology", have been recognized as first-class courses at the school level. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 50,000 college and technical secondary school graduates, trained more than 30,000 technical personnel of various types for the society, and cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for local economic and social development. Since its establishment, the employment rate of graduates has been ranked among the top of similar colleges and universities. Except for 2020, which was affected by the epidemic, the employment rate of students has been above 91%. The school has won more than 300 honorary titles such as "Excellent Private Higher Education Institutions in China", "National Advanced Private Education Collective", "Advanced Unit of Vocational Education in Hunan Province", "Advanced Unit of Graduate Employment in Hunan Province", and "Top Ten Private Schools in Hunan Province".
