Tianjin University of Science and Technology is located on the coast of Bohai Sea and Haihe River. It is a key university jointly built by the central and local governments and Tianjin. It is a multidisciplinary university with engineering as its main discipline and coordinated development of engineering, science, liberal arts, agriculture, medicine, economics, management, law and art. It is the only university in Tianjin's twin cities that has a complete undergraduate, master and doctoral education system. In its 65 years of establishment, the school has adhered to the school-running tradition of "persisting in expanding the characteristics of light industry, carefully cultivating the backbone of the industry, and being determined to serve the national economy and people's livelihood", and carried forward the school motto of "advocating morality, learning, behavior, patriotism, school and people". It has trained nearly 200,000 graduates for the country, created a large number of academic masters and industry leaders with outstanding achievements, and won recognized academic reputation and social influence. History The school was founded in 1958, then named Hebei Institute of Light Industry. It is one of the first four undergraduate light industry colleges in my country and was once affiliated to the Ministry of Light Industry. After the establishment of the school, the pulp and paper major of Tianjin University, the plastic molding and processing major of the former Wuxi Institute of Light Industry, the fermentation engineering and salt chemical engineering majors of the former Beijing Institute of Light Industry, and the former Tanggu Salt Industry College of the Ministry of Light Industry, which enjoys the reputation of "Salt Industry Huangpu", were successively incorporated. In 1968, the school was renamed Tianjin Institute of Light Industry. In 1998, the school's management system was changed to co-construction by the central and local governments, with Tianjin as the main management. In 2002, the school was renamed Tianjin University of Science and Technology. In 2013, the former Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone Vocational and Technical College was incorporated. School conditions The school currently has two campuses, Binhai and Hexi. Among them, the Binhai main campus is located in "Bincheng", one of the twin cities of Tianjin. Surrounding it are the Binhai-Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park Sino-Singapore Eco-City, the National Maritime Museum, the TEDA Aircraft Carrier Theme Park, and the Golden Coast of Dongjiang Bay; the Hexi campus is located in the core area of Tianjin's "Design City" - the Haihe Liulin area, surrounded by the Tianjin Cultural Center, the National Convention and Exhibition Center, and the Binhai International Airport. The school covers a total area of 1.5332 million square meters, with 15 colleges (teaching departments), more than 27,000 full-time undergraduate, master and doctoral students, 2,186 faculty and staff, and the only Class A comprehensive gymnasium in Binhai New Area. Faculty The school has a high-quality faculty. There are 1,424 full-time teachers, 720 professors and associate professors, and 1,391 doctoral and master's tutors. There are 7 academicians (including dual appointments), 27 national talents such as "National Special Support Plan" science and technology innovation leaders, 145 provincial and ministerial talents such as Tianjin Outstanding Talents, and 40 national and provincial and ministerial high-level teaching and research teams such as the Ministry of Education Innovation Team. A group of excellent teachers with noble professional ethics and superb business skills have emerged, including winners of the National Innovation Award, national teaching masters, national outstanding teachers, and national outstanding science and technology workers. The school has established the national key discipline of "fermentation engineering". The two disciplines of light industry technology and engineering and food science and engineering have received key support from the superior and have been selected into the top discipline cultivation plan of Tianjin universities. There are 4 first-level doctoral degree authorization points in light industry technology and engineering, food science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, and mechanical engineering, and a doctoral degree authorization point in biology and medicine, 20 first-level master's degree authorization points and 12 master's professional degree authorization categories. Five disciplines of agricultural science, chemistry, biology and biochemistry, engineering, and materials science are in the top 1% of the ES| global ranking, among which agricultural science ranks close to the top 1%. The two disciplines of polymer science and food science and technology are ranked 21st and 40th in the world in the USNews subject rankings respectively. There are 57 undergraduate enrollment majors, of which 32 majors have been selected as national and Tianjin-level undergraduate major construction points. The school of education and teaching implements the fundamental task of moral education and attaches importance to the comprehensive development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. It took the lead in launching the full credit system reform in Tianjin, and the People's Daily and other media have reported it many times. It has good teaching conditions such as a national virtual simulation experiment center, a national engineering practice center, a national industry-education consortium, and a national bilingual teaching demonstration course to meet the diverse and personalized development needs of students. As a university implementing the "Excellent Engineer" education and training program of the Ministry of Education, it selects outstanding students from freshmen every year to enter experimental classes such as intelligent science and advanced manufacturing and engineering biology "Peison Class". It actively explores the collaborative education model of industry-education integration and science-education integration, and cooperates with the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences to establish the School of Engineering Biology. It has established a modern biomedical industry college and was selected as the best case of modern industry college construction in the country. It has also built a characteristic demonstration software college with relevant enterprises. The university focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship education, and has built a national makerspace and the Ministry of Education's Sino-US Youth Maker Exchange Center. Students have repeatedly achieved outstanding results in domestic and international innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. The school has been listed in the "Top 100 List of National College Student Entrepreneurship Promotion Work". It has won 5 national teaching achievement awards, and a large number of outstanding students such as the Chinese University Student Self-improvement Star have emerged. Scientific research has built 49 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Safety, the State Key Laboratory of Bio-source Fiber Manufacturing Technology, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Metabolic Controlled Fermentation Technology, and the National New Rural Development Research Institute. It has jointly built a number of high-level industry-university-research collaborative innovation platforms with industry associations such as the China Alcoholic Beverage Association and large enterprises. The patent work has achieved outstanding results, and a number of patent transfers of more than 10 million yuan have been signed, and licensing contracts have been implemented. It has been approved as a national intellectual property pilot university construction unit, a national patent collaborative application pilot unit, and a national intellectual property information service center for colleges and universities. International exchanges adhere to internationalized education, and have established academic contacts with 142 universities and research institutions in 43 countries including Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Japan, Canada, and Finland.
