Inner Mongolia University of Technology is located in Hohhot. It is a distinctive multi-disciplinary university with a focus on engineering and a combination of engineering, science, management, law, liberal arts, economics and art. It has a complete talent training system for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. History of Schooling The school was founded in 1951 as a senior industrial school in Suiyuan Province, pioneering engineering education in Inner Mongolia. In 1958, Inner Mongolia Institute of Technology was established with the support of Tsinghua University, opening a new chapter in undergraduate education. In 1983, the school was placed under the management of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by the Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1984, during the second batch of national doctoral and master's degree authorization review, the school was awarded the right to award master's degrees, and the level of schooling was further improved. In 1993, the school was renamed Inner Mongolia University of Technology, realizing a historic transformation from a single engineering college to a multidisciplinary university. In 2003, the school obtained the right to award doctoral degrees. The talent training school currently has more than 27,800 students, including more than 22,600 undergraduates, more than 5,100 doctoral and master's students, and 77 international students in China. There are currently 22 teaching units and 66 undergraduate enrollment majors. It has the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduates to study for master's degrees without taking the exam. There are currently 20 national-level and 10 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 5 Ministry of Education specialty major construction sites, 4 Ministry of Education outstanding engineer training program pilot majors, 1 national-level professional comprehensive reform pilot major, and 10 undergraduate majors. Discipline Construction The school currently has 5 first-level doctoral degree-granting disciplines including mechanics, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, power engineering and engineering thermophysics, and architecture. It has jointly established a first-level doctoral degree-granting discipline in Marxist theory with Inner Mongolia University. . There are 25 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degrees and 15 professional master's degree categories. There are 9 autonomous region key disciplines, 4 autonomous region key cultivation disciplines, and 3 autonomous region advantageous and characteristic disciplines. Power engineering and engineering thermophysics were selected as first-class cultivation disciplines in the autonomous region, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, and architecture were selected as first-class construction disciplines in the autonomous region, and mechanics was selected as first-class cultivation disciplines in the autonomous region. Engineering and materials science disciplines rank among the top 1% of ESI globally. The school currently has 5 national and ministerial-level scientific research platforms, 25 autonomous region-level (higher education) key laboratories, 2 integrated research platforms, 19 engineering (technology) research centers, 2 collaborative innovation centers, and university humanities societies. It has 6 key research bases, 1 international science and technology cooperation base and 14 other autonomous region-level platforms. It was approved as a national technology transfer talent training base, and was identified as a pilot unit for the autonomous region’s job-based scientific and technological achievement empowerment reform and a pilot unit for the scientific and technological achievement evaluation reform. Overall situation of the teaching staff: The school currently has 2,187 faculty members and 1,526 full-time teachers, including 217 professors, 551 associate professors, 131 doctoral supervisors, 1,024 master's supervisors, and 631 teachers with doctoral degrees.
