Anqing Normal University is located in Anqing, a national historical and cultural city, a national civilized city, and an excellent tourist city in China. It is the hometown of the Tongcheng School and the hometown of Huangmei Opera. It has the reputation of "a thousand-year-old ancient city, a century-old provincial capital, a cultural state, and a hometown of drama". The school is adjacent to the vast Yangtze River, adjacent to the Ning'an High-speed Railway and the He'an-Jiujiang High-speed Railway. It has a superior geographical location and convenient water, land, and air transportation. It is a national college student cultural quality education base, a national advanced unit for spiritual civilization construction, a national base for the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture in ordinary colleges and universities, and a national advanced unit for school art education. "National Advanced Unit for Summer 'Three Going to the Countryside' Social Practice Activities for College and Technical School Volunteers", is the sixth Anhui Provincial Civilized Unit, Anhui Provincial College "Three-All Education" Comprehensive Reform Pilot Unit, and a selected school for the Central and Western College Basic Capacity Construction Project. The school has a long history of running schools and is the birthplace of higher education in Anhui. The history of running schools can be traced back to the largest provincial school in Anhui in 1897, Jingfu Academy, which can be roughly divided into four periods. The first period was from 1897 to 1949, more than 50 years before the founding of New China. The school went through the stages of Jingfu Academy, Anhui University Hall, Anhui Higher School, Provincial Anhui University, and National Anhui University. It was a glorious period in the school's history and laid the foundation for the school's status as the birthplace of Anhui higher education. The second period was from 1949 to 1980, 30 years from the founding of New China to the beginning of reform and opening up. In October 1949, after the National Anhui University moved to Wuhu, the school was repeatedly dismantled and merged, and it went through several changes and vicissitudes, but it continued to run schools and passed on the torch. It successively held the Naval Joint School and Anqing Normal College. The third period was from 1980 to 2016, more than 30 years after the reform and opening up, when Anqing Normal College was established. In May 1980, Anqing Normal College was approved by the State Council to usher in a new life for the school's development. In 2002, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2006, it was approved as a master's degree awarding unit. In 2007, it passed the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. The fourth period is from 2016 to the present, when the school has entered a new period of development of Anqing Normal University. In 2016, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the provincial government, the school was renamed Anqing Normal University and embarked on a new journey of building a high-level university. In 2017, it entered the ranks of first-class enrollment in Anhui Province, and in 2018, it successfully passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, it was approved to establish a university with a doctoral degree-granting unit, and in 2024, it was approved to establish a doctoral degree-granting unit with a key project. The school currently has two campuses, Longshan and Linghu, covering an area of 2,800 acres. There are 17 secondary colleges and 74 undergraduate majors under construction, covering 10 major disciplines including literature, economics, history, law, education, science, engineering, management, agriculture, and art. There are more than 1,900 faculty and staff, including more than 700 with senior professional and technical titles. There are more than 180 outstanding talents of various types, including national-level famous teachers, provincial-level famous teachers, experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council and the provincial government, provincial academic and technical leaders and reserve candidates, and provincial Wanjiang scholars. There are more than 29,000 full-time students. The school has excellent teaching level. It fully benchmarks the Ministry of Education's "Six Excellence and One Outstanding" Talent Cultivation 2.0 Plan, conscientiously implements the requirements of "Five Educations", continuously deepens the comprehensive reform with the reform of talent cultivation model as the core, deeply promotes the classification construction of colleges, and vigorously promotes the construction of teaching quality engineering. It has 15 national-level quality engineering construction projects, including national-level characteristic majors, national-level teaching teams, national-level talent cultivation model innovation experimental areas, national college students' cultural quality education bases, national college students' off-campus practical education bases, national-level quality courses, national college students' quality education quality general courses, and national quality video open courses. In the past five years, 9 new national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites have been added, of which 5 are teacher education majors; 18 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, of which 9 are teacher education majors; 6 national first-class courses, 252 provincial first-class courses and demonstration courses, and 672 provincial quality engineering projects have been approved, including 51 provincial teaching achievement awards. The school has strong disciplinary strength. The school is active in opening up and running schools. It has established friendly cooperation schools with 32 foreign universities, including Salisbury University in the United States, the University of Central Arkansas in the United States, and the University of Hildesheim in Germany, and has carried out substantive cooperation in teacher exchanges, student exchanges, teaching and scientific research. The school also conducts cooperative research with a number of famous domestic universities, research institutes, and large state-owned enterprises. The school signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Anqing City to jointly build three industrial colleges (research institutes) and promote the construction of "one room, two bases and three centers". The school-city cooperation has formed a new pattern of all-round, multi-level, and wide-ranging deep integration, and its ability to serve local economic and social development has been continuously enhanced. The school has distinctive characteristics in running schools. Guided by the core values of socialism, focusing on the inheritance and innovation of excellent local culture, relying on rich local cultural resources and unique location advantages, the school has made outstanding achievements in the inheritance and innovation of Tongcheng School and Tongcheng culture, Huangmei Opera, teacher education and local leading industries such as petrochemical new materials, research and protection of biodiversity in southwest Anhui, and college students' on-the-job teaching, forming a relatively distinct cultural education and academic discipline characteristics. The school has achieved fruitful results in educating people.
