History and Founding Time: The college was founded in 1958 as the Wilmington Industrial Education Center, mainly providing courses for high school students and adults. In 1963, it was renamed Cape Fear Technical College. In 1988, it was officially renamed Cape Fear Community College, and a new campus was opened in 2002.
