Nature of the institution: Public community college.

Founded: 1960, formerly known as James Sprunt Technical College.

Location: Located in the town of Keenansville, North Carolina.

History: In 1840, Dr. James Menzies Sprunt of the Scottish Presbyterian Church immigrated to the United States and settled in Duplin County, and later became the president of Grove College. In 1860, he served as the president of Keenansville Theological Seminary. In 1896, Keenansville Theological Seminary closed and reopened as James Sprunt College. In 1960, the new James Sprunt College was established as a branch of the Goldsboro Industrial Education Center. In 1964, the County Commission and the Board of Education voted to expand it into an independent institution and renamed it James Sprunt College. In 1967, it was officially separated from Wayne Technical College.
