History and Founding Time
The school was founded in 1951 and was originally named Mount Allen Junior College. It was renamed Mount Olive Junior College in 1956, Mount Olive College in 1970, and officially changed its name to University of Mount Olive in 2014. Its roots can be traced back to 1897, when the Free Will Baptist Church in Pitt County, North Carolina, established the Free Will Baptist Seminary and its successor institution, Eureka College, to meet the educational needs of the community. Later, due to a fire in 1931, the college ceased operations, and its educational vision was continued and developed at the University of Mount Olive.
