History

The school was founded in 1914 as the adult education and training department of Williamsport High School, and developed into the Williamsport Institute of Technology in 1941.

During World War II, the school operated 24 hours a day, providing war production training for the defense industry and training and retraining for disabled veterans.

In 1965, Williamsport Area Community College was established, inheriting the functions of the former Institute of Technology and continuing to provide technical training for residents in northern Pennsylvania.
