Campus Overview

History

The school originated in 1934 during the Great Depression, when the Penn State College Extension Service completed a community survey at the request of Hazleton community leaders, and the Hazleton Undergraduate Center was established.

Over the years, the school has undergone several relocations and expansions. In December 1948, the college purchased 26 acres of mountaintop land in Sugarloaf Township as its permanent site, which was once the residential estate of local coal tycoon Eckley B. Markel.
