Tibet University for Nationalities is located in Xianyang, Shaanxi Province. It is the first higher education institution established by the Party Central Committee for Tibet after the peaceful liberation of Tibet. The establishment of the university is a wise decision made by the older generation of party and state leaders based on the political vision of national unity, frontier stability, and national rejuvenation. It is an important layout of the central government's strategy for governing Tibet. The university is a university jointly established by the People's Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, a key university in the central and western regions of the country, a national national unity and progress education base, a pilot unit of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Talent Training Program, a team-based counterpart assistance university of the Ministry of Education, the second batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, the first batch of excellent pilot units of education informatization of the Ministry of Education, a national model unit for greening, a national civilized campus, a university of the autonomous region's network ideological and political work center (E-class Center), the first batch of national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base construction units, and the Ministry of Education's "National Common Language and Character Promotion and Popularization Advanced Collective". Tibet University for Nationalities was born in the special historical period of the early days of the peaceful liberation of Tibet and the eve of democratic reform. It shoulders the special historical mission of cultivating various talents for Tibet and has made special historical contributions to the economic development and social progress of Tibet. The predecessor of the school was the "Tibet Public School" which was founded in 1957 by the instructions of the Party Central Committee and opened in September 1958. It was renamed the Tibet Nationalities College in 1965 and the Tibet University for Nationalities in 2015. The development of the school has always received the cordial care of the leaders of the Party and the country. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping and others have all made specific instructions on the preparation and construction of the school. After the reform and opening up, central leaders such as Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao were very concerned about the development of the school. Comrade Hu Jintao sent a congratulatory letter for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school. It has always been committed to fully implementing the Party and the State's Tibet governance strategy, safeguarding the unity of the motherland, national unity, and opposing separatism; it has always been committed to fully serving the long-term economic development and long-term stability of Tibet; it has always been committed to cultivating a high-quality cadre team for Tibet that is reliable, useful, can go down, and can stay, and has cultivated a large number of outstanding cadres and professional and technical talents for the Party and the people and for the development of various undertakings in Tibet. Since its founding, the university has trained more than 110,000 high-level outstanding builders and outstanding talents from all walks of life and at all levels, among which more than 40 provincial and ministerial leaders and a large number of outstanding talents such as artists, writers, professors, medical scientists, agronomists, engineers, etc. have emerged, winning the reputation of "the cradle of Tibetan cadres". The university actively builds a discipline and professional system with distinct characteristics that adapts to the needs of Tibet's economic and social development and talent training, covering 11 disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art. It has 14 teaching units including the School of Literature, the Institute of Ethnic Studies, the School of Law, the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Marxism, the School of Finance and Economics, the School of Management, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Education, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Physical Education, the School of Medicine, the Graduate School, and the School of Continuing Education. The university is a doctoral degree-granting institution with 1 first-level doctoral degree authorization point (Marxist theory), 13 first-level master's degree authorization points, 19 master's professional degree authorization points, and 61 undergraduate majors. 1 postdoctoral innovation and practice base, 2 national characteristic specialty construction sites, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot project, 7 national first-class majors, 16 provincial first-class majors, 4 autonomous region-level characteristic majors, and 3 autonomous region-level professional comprehensive reform pilot projects. 2 national first-class undergraduate courses and 15 autonomous region-level first-class courses. A number of major research results, represented by "Series of Research Reports on the High-Quality Development of Tibetan Characteristic Industries" (series), "Research on the Genetic Diversity of Ethnic Groups in Tibet", "Classification of Tibetan Historical Materials in the Records of the Ming and Qing Dynasties", "A Century of Economic History of Tibet", and "Research on Ethnic Relations in Tibet - Focusing on the Relationship between the Tibetan Menluo Ethnic Groups", have been produced, which have provided strong theoretical support for the decision-making of the Party Committee and the Government of the Autonomous Region, and have given full play to the think tank role of universities. Among them, the Collaborative Innovation Center for the Inheritance and Development of Tibetan Culture was selected as the first batch of collaborative innovation centers jointly built by provinces and ministries by the Ministry of Education, and the Institute of South Asia was selected into the list of country and regional research centers of the Ministry of Education, and was approved as the "Belt and Road" country and regional research center by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. Relying on high-level laboratories such as the Key Laboratory of Molecular Genetic Mechanisms and Intervention Research on Plateau Environment-Related Diseases, the Key Laboratory of Tibet Optical Information Processing and Visualization Technology, the Ministry of Education Engineering Research (Cultivation) Center for Tibetan Medicine Testing Technology, and the Plateau Water Pollution Control and Ecological Restoration Engineering Laboratory, a group of high-level scientific research teams have been cultivated, actively participating in major projects such as the Second Comprehensive Scientific Expedition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and providing strong scientific and technological support for Tibet's long-term stability and high-quality development. The school currently has two campuses, Weicheng and Qinhan, and has built a teaching practice base in Lhasa. The school covers an area of 1,157.48 acres and a total school building area of 498,000 square meters. There are currently 208 internship practice bases and 1 autonomous region-level maker space; the library area is 2.30,000 square meters, forming a collection of rich subject content, paper, electronic and network forms of various collection resources, the total collection of more than 3.19 million volumes. The school gives full play to the policy advantages of aid to Tibet and actively builds a counterpart support work mechanism. Under the overall planning of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education and Shaanxi Province, 12 counterpart support universities including Renmin University of China, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, East China Normal University, Southeast University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Nanjing University, Communication University of China, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University and Chang'an University have continuously innovated the form of aid to Tibet, broadened the scope of aid to Tibet, enriched the connotation of aid to Tibet, carried out in-depth multi-level and multi-channel counterpart support work, and promoted the school's disciplines, teaching staff, talent training, scientific research and other aspects to achieve considerable development and progress.
