School History
The school was founded on April 17, 1911 by the Methodist Episcopal Church of the South in cooperation with Dallas municipal leaders.
It was originally planned to officially open in 1913, but due to delays in the construction of the school's first building, classes did not begin until 1915.
In 1987, the school was "death penalty" by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) due to multiple serious violations of the American football program in recruiting players. The school was disqualified from the 1987 and most of the 1988 seasons and was banned from participating in bowl games and all televised sports events for two years.
In 2008, the school was selected as the site of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and the George W. Bush Policy Institute.
