Nanjing Medical University is a national "double first-class" construction university, the first batch of medical schools jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, the Ministry of Education's high-level public health college construction university, and the Jiangsu High-level University Construction Peak Plan A-level construction university. The school was founded in 1934, then known as the Jiangsu Provincial Medical Administration College. During the Anti-Japanese War, it was renamed the National Jiangsu Medical College. In 1957, it moved from Zhenjiang to Nanjing and was renamed Nanjing Medical College. In 1962, it was listed as one of the first six-year medical schools in the country. In 1981, it was approved as one of the first doctoral and master's degree-granting institutions in the country. In 1993, it was renamed Nanjing Medical University. The school has Jiangning Campus, Wutai Campus and Changzhou Campus (under preparation), and the school headquarters has more than 2,000 faculty and staff. The school currently has 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (including workstations), 1 foreign academician of the National Academy of Medicine of the United States, 3 members of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and more than 100 national high-level talents. The school has 6 national teaching teams, of which 3 have been selected as "National Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams"; there is 1 national ideological and political demonstration team, 1 "Innovation Team" of the Ministry of Education, and 3 national innovation research groups. The school currently has 7 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 54 second-level doctoral degree authorization points, 6 interdisciplinary doctoral degree authorization points, and 3 professional doctoral degree authorization points; 10 first-level master's degree authorization points, 65 second-level master's degree authorization points; 6 postdoctoral research mobile stations, and degree authorization points cover 7 disciplines including medicine, science, engineering, management, law, education and literature; it has 3 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 34 national clinical key specialties, and 6 Jiangsu university advantage disciplines (fourth phase). In the new round of national discipline evaluation, the overall strength has been steadily improved; 13 disciplines are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking, among which clinical medicine and pharmacology and toxicology are ranked in the top 1‰ of the ESI global ranking. The university has 19 colleges (including one independent secondary college), 25 undergraduate majors, 3 undergraduate (master) and doctoral integrated training majors, 3 "5+3" undergraduate and master integrated majors, and a total of nearly 20,000 students. The school was selected as the 2.0 base for the Ministry of Education's Basic Discipline Outstanding Student Training Program. The national first-class undergraduate major construction points account for nearly 80% of the total number of majors in the school. It has a large number of national teaching platforms and course resources, and has won 7 national teaching achievement awards (1 first prize). The school's enrollment, training and employment work have been widely praised by all sectors of society. The pass rate of graduates' practicing physician qualification examination ranks among the top domestic similar colleges and universities, and the employment rate of graduates has always remained above 96%. The school has more than 30 national and provincial key laboratories (engineering research centers, innovation centers), including the National Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine and Offspring Health, the International Joint Research Center for Environment and Human Health, and the Provincial and Ministerial Collaborative Innovation Center for Individualized Tumor Medicine. It has a first-class medical simulation education center and Jiangsu Medical Animal Experiment Base in China, and has the only provincial health policy think tank in the province-Jiangsu Health Research Institute. The school actively faces the major national needs in the field of life and health, and has established major scientific and technological innovation teams such as the Basic Science Center and the Innovation Research Group; it has undertaken nearly 100 major and key national science and technology plan projects; representative research results have been published in top academic journals such as Nature and Science, and have won a number of national and provincial scientific research achievement awards represented by the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award. The school adheres to the "open-door education" and has established various forms of contact and cooperation with governments at all levels, domestic and foreign universities, scientific research institutions, and social groups. The school has established good strategic cooperation and academic exchange relations with medical schools or scientific research institutions in the United States, Russia, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Japan and other countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
