History:
Founded in 1891, it was originally a small parish school near Broadway and Madison in downtown Seattle taken over by Adrian Sweere, S.J., then known as the Immaculate Conception Parish School.
In 1898, the school was named Seattle College after "Seattle" and Chief Seattle, and 11 years later, the first bachelor's degrees were awarded. It was originally both a high school and a university. Later in 1948, under the leadership of Father Albert A. Lemieux, S.J., Seattle College was renamed Seattle University.
In 1993, through the acquisition of the law school of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Seattle University established the School of Law and moved to the Seattle campus in 1999.
