Chengde Medical College is a full-time higher medical undergraduate college under the leadership of the People's Government of Hebei Province. It is located in Chengde City, a famous historical and cultural city. Since its establishment, the school has been adhering to the Chengde Medical Spirit of "political firmness, benevolence and sincerity, respect for life, and willingness to contribute", the school-running philosophy of "benevolence and sincerity, unity of knowledge and action", and the school motto of "rigorousness, truth-seeking, diligence, and innovation". Adhering to the socialist direction of running schools, keeping in mind the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people, the school has been pioneering and forging ahead on the journey of running higher education that satisfies the people. History The school was founded in September 1945, then known as the Jidong Military Region Health School. It was successively renamed the Jichareliao Branch of China Medical University, the Fourth Branch of China Medical University, Rehe Medical College, Rehe Provincial Medical College, Chengde Health School, Hebei Chengde Health School, Chengde Medical College, etc. In 1982, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and named Chengde Medical College. In 1996, the school was the first to pass the undergraduate college qualification evaluation organized by the former State Education Commission. In 2001, it merged with the Specialty Sericulture Research Institute of Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. In 2003, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution. In 2006, it moved to the new campus as a whole and began to recruit international students. The school currently has 11,325 full-time students, 9,758 undergraduates, 1,418 postgraduates, and 194 international students. In the 78 years since its establishment, the school has always been rooted in the Great Wall and served the society. It has trained more than 50,000 graduates and made positive contributions to the development of medical and health care in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and surrounding areas, and in South Asia and African countries along the "Belt and Road". There are currently 21 undergraduate majors in the discipline. There are 5 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master's degrees, covering 36 second-level disciplines; 5 master's professional degree categories, covering 39 professional fields. It has 2 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 9 provincial first-class undergraduate majors. There are 2 national characteristic specialty construction sites, 1 professional comprehensive reform pilot, 2 pilot projects for the reform of the excellent doctor education and training plan, 2 undergraduate education innovation highlands, and 2 brand-characteristic majors; 3 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilots, 9 provincial quality courses, 1 quality resource sharing course, 13 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 provincial excellent teaching teams, 1 provincial college student off-campus practical education base, 4 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses, and 1 provincial curriculum ideological and political teaching research demonstration center. There is 1 national key TCM specialty, 2 national clinical key specialty construction projects, 8 provincial key (development) disciplines, 5 provincial medical key disciplines (advanced, development), 19 provincial clinical key specialty construction (cultivation) units, 2 Hebei Provincial TCM key specialty construction units, and 2 Hebei Provincial TCM key disciplines. For scientific research, there are 2 provincial key laboratories, 1 provincial industrial technology research institute, 1 provincial academician workstation, 1 provincial foreign academician workstation, 1 provincial applied technology research and development center, 1 provincial key research room of traditional Chinese medicine, 1 provincial international science and technology cooperation base, 1 provincial modern industrial college, and 2 provincial science popularization demonstration bases. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, 13 national projects and 130 provincial and ministerial projects have been approved, and 93.1053 million yuan of scientific research funds have been obtained. 3,674 academic papers have been published, of which 313 have been indexed by SCI and 1,477 have been published in Chinese core journals. 541 scientific and technological achievements at or above the municipal and departmental level have been awarded, including 13 provincial awards; 41 books have been published; 46 invention patents have been authorized, including 5 PCT patents, and 1 scientific research achievement has been transformed. The editor-in-chief has participated in the editing of 46 national planning textbooks and 32 provincial and ministerial planning textbooks. The Academician Workstation of Chengde Medical College passed the national academician expert workstation construction certification in 2019, and was selected as a model academician workstation by the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Association in the same year. The faculty team currently has 2,117 faculty members (including directly affiliated hospitals), including 1,932 professional and technical personnel, 247 senior professional titles, 578 associate senior professional titles, and 1,416 doctoral and master's degree personnel. There is one directly affiliated hospital, 11 non-affiliated affiliated hospitals, 33 teaching hospitals, 19 internship hospitals, and more than 40,000 teaching beds. The Affiliated Hospital of Chengde Medical College currently has two campuses, the headquarters and the South Campus, with a total area of 218 acres, a building area of 250,000 square meters, total assets of 2 billion yuan, and 2,400 open beds. There are 129 sets of medical equipment worth more than 1 million yuan, 1,057 sets of medical equipment worth more than 100,000 yuan; there are 33 laminar flow purification operating rooms; it is a tertiary-level A-class comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, and preventive health care. Foreign exchanges adhere to open education, expand foreign exchanges and cooperation, and the source of international students is spread across 12 countries; it has established friendly exchanges and cooperation with more than 10 well-known foreign universities and medical institutions such as the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The school has hired more than 30 well-known scholars at home and abroad as visiting professors, including 5 foreign academicians as distinguished professors. Professor Hans Hultborn of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, who is a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Denmark and Norway, won the "Chinese Government Friendship Award" in 2013 and the "Hebei International Science and Technology Cooperation Award" in 2016. Academician Ian Hickson won the "Yanzhao Friendship Award" awarded by the People's Government of Hebei Province in 2022. Social services play the role of universities in serving the society and contribute to local social and economic construction. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has signed 16 agreements with enterprises, 15 horizontal projects, established 20 scientific research bases, guided more than 50 enterprises, trained more than 10,000 people, created 330 million yuan in profits, helped more than 1,000 farmers out of poverty, and increased per capita income by more than 5,000 yuan, radiating Hebei Province and many surrounding provinces, cities, counties and districts, and technically supporting the planting of more than 1.2 million mu of Chinese medicinal materials. Promote the independent research and development of feed mulberry varieties Jisang No. 3 for more than 50,000 mu, scientifically guide the mulberry area of 69,000 mu, and drive the industry to radiate Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Xinjiang and other places. As the president unit of the Hebei University Student Red Ribbon Association, the school guides 33 member units to carry out AIDS prevention and education activities, and has made positive contributions to the AIDS prevention and health education cause in our province. Every year, the school sends village working groups to rural areas of Kuancheng, Fengning, Luanping and other counties to carry out poverty alleviation work, and actively provide scientific and intellectual support to the assisted villages.
