Ningxia Normal University is located in Yuanzhou District, Guyuan City, a historic city at the foot of Liupan Mountain in southern Ningxia. It is under the management of the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and is the only undergraduate normal university in Ningxia. The predecessor of the school was Liupanshan University established in 1975. Hu Qili, former vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and then deputy secretary of the Guyuan Prefectural Committee, served as the head of the preparatory group of Liupanshan University and the head of the core leadership group of the Party. In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, Guyuan Normal College was established on the basis of Liupanshan University. In 1994, it was renamed Guyuan Normal College. In 2006, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be renamed Ningxia Normal University and upgraded to an undergraduate institution. In 2012, it was approved as a pilot unit for bachelor's degree awarding institutions to carry out the training of master's professional degree graduate students in the "Service for National Special Needs Talent Training Project" and began to enroll students in 2013. In 2013, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In the same year, it obtained the qualification to train local public-funded normal students. In 2016, it became the first batch of pilot universities for overall application transformation in Ningxia and a "first-class western" discipline construction unit in the autonomous region, and was approved to recruit foreign students. In 2018, it was approved as a master's degree awarding institution, a pilot school for high-level undergraduate education in the autonomous region, and a pilot school for the autonomous region's artificial intelligence-assisted teacher team building action. In 2019, it successfully passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education. In November 2021, it was approved as a "pilot university for undergraduate vocational education in the autonomous region." In 2022, it was selected into the "Ministry of Education's Teacher Education Collaborative Quality Improvement Plan", and in 2023, the Office of the Academic Degree Committee of the Autonomous Region People's Government listed Ningxia Normal University as a new doctoral degree awarding project construction unit from 2024 to 2026. Over the past 40 years since its establishment, the school has been deeply rooted in the southern mountainous area of Ningxia, taking it as its mission to serve the regional economic and social development and meet the spiritual needs of the people. Generations of Ningshi people have performed their duties conscientiously, worked tirelessly in wind and rain, taught tirelessly, passed on the torch, and carried forward the revolutionary spirit of "not being a hero without visiting the Great Wall", adhered to the school-running tradition of "red genes inherited from generation to generation, family and country feelings as a main line, pragmatic teaching consistent, serving the grassroots wholeheartedly" and the school-running philosophy of "open schooling, connotation development, and comprehensive improvement of education quality", adhering to the school motto of "high learning as a teacher, upright conduct as a model", advocating the school spirit of "diligence, truth-seeking, innovation, and dedication", the teaching style of "dedication to work, love for students, erudition and practice" and the style of study of "diligent learning, good thinking, unity of knowledge and action", and have trained more than 50,000 talents of various types for the society. It is known as the "talent base at the foot of Liupan Mountain and the cradle of teachers in the mountainous area of southern Ningxia". The university currently has two campuses, Guyan and Wenyuan, with a total area of 928,400 square meters and a total building area of 322,500 square meters, including 187,900 square meters of teaching, scientific research and administrative buildings and 73,800 square meters of student dormitories. The total value of the university's teaching and scientific research equipment is 61.3361 million yuan. There are 1.1449 million Chinese and foreign paper books, 1.09 million digital resources, and 23 Chinese and foreign databases. The Journal of Ningxia Normal University is publicly distributed nationwide and is the first national "Top 100" social science journal. The university currently has 15 teaching units, 8 teaching auxiliary units, 2 scientific research units, and 19 party and mass administrative units. There are 18 master's degree authorization points in four disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, science, and engineering. There are 41 general undergraduate majors in 8 disciplines, including law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. A talent training system of different types, including graduate education, undergraduate education, full-time higher education, higher vocational education, adult continuing education, and education for international students, has been initially formed. There are 3 first-class disciplines in the autonomous region, 1 dominant and characteristic discipline in the autonomous region, 3 key disciplines in the autonomous region, and 11 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including 2 key laboratories in the autonomous region, 1 sub-center of the key research base of humanities and social sciences in ordinary colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, 1 sports culture research base of the State General Administration of Sports, 2 technology innovation centers in the autonomous region, 2 scientific and technological innovation platforms in colleges and universities in the autonomous region, 1 cultivation platform, 1 think tank of new colleges and universities in the autonomous region, and 1 basic education research center in the autonomous region. There are 17 key disciplines at the school level, 6 research (engineering) centers, 9 industry-university-research cooperation education bases, and 2 humanities and social sciences research bases. There are 1 national characteristic specialty construction site, 1 professional comprehensive reform pilot specialty, 7 first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, 10 autonomous region first-class specialty construction sites, 9 autonomous region first-class grassroots teaching organizations, 6 autonomous region "excellent talent training classes", 42 autonomous region "first-class courses", 1 national experimental teaching research center, and 1 Ministry of Education curriculum ideological and political demonstration course. The school currently has 805 faculty and staff, including 610 full-time teachers, 165 senior professional and technical positions, and 246 deputy senior professional and technical positions, accounting for 67.38% of the total number of full-time teachers, 138 doctors, and teachers with master's degrees and above account for 84.26% of the total number of full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there is one person in the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, two people who have received special allowances from the State Council, one national model teacher, one national outstanding teacher, one national archives craftsman-type talent, one famous teacher and team of ideological and political teaching of the Ministry of Education, one person in the fourth batch of "312 Talent Attraction Program of China", one person in the fifth batch of "Hundred Talent Attraction Program of China", two people in the "313 Talent Project" of China, four people who have received special allowances from the government of China, eight people in the leading talent training project of China, seven people in the top young talents of China, 26 people in the "Youth Talent Support Project" of China, one "Famous Teacher on the Saishang" of China, one "Cultural Master on the Saishang" of China, five famous teachers at the autonomous region level, six outstanding teachers of the autonomous region, five academic leaders of the autonomous region, two advanced workers of the autonomous region, one model of teacher ethics of the autonomous region, two March 8th Red Flag Bearers of the autonomous region, one model of women's achievements of the autonomous region, and one person who won the "9.10" Education Medal of the autonomous region. There are 2 "Liupan Talents" in Guyuan City and 1 "Liupan Famous Teacher" in Guyuan City. The school recruits students from all over the country. There are currently 9,919 full-time undergraduates (including 1,796 public-funded normal students), 262 undergraduate preparatory students, 612 postgraduate students, and 2,641 students enrolled in adult higher education. The school has strengthened the publicity of employment and entrepreneurship policies and actively expanded employment channels. The employment rate of graduates has remained at around 90% for many years. The school actively carries out foreign exchanges and cooperation. In 2022, it was selected as a key supported institution in the Ministry of Education's collaborative quality improvement plan for teacher education. It implemented joint school-running with Ningxia University, established a counterpart support relationship with East China Normal University, and co-established the School of Marxism with Northeast Normal University. It has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 20 domestic and foreign universities including Beijing Normal University, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest Normal University, Fujian Normal University, Zhejiang Normal University, Hunan Normal University, Minnan Normal University, Changsha Normal University, Hubei University, Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University, Xi'an Conservatory of Music, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Pingtung University, Providence University, Shu-Te University of Technology in Taiwan, Woosong University in South Korea, National Institute of Higher Education in Tunisia, Marlborough Institute of Technology in New Zealand, Sultan Idris Education University and INTI International University in Malaysia, and Bovin International Education College in Singapore. The school has been awarded the title of "National Model Collective for National Unity and Progress" by the State Council twice, and the title of "National Advanced Collective for National Education" by the former State Education Commission. It is the fourth "National Civilized Unit" and the first "National Civilized Campus". It is a national defense education characteristic school and a model unit for conservation-oriented public institutions. It was rated as "Model Collective for National Unity and Progress in the Whole Region" by the Party Committee and Government of the Autonomous Region, and is a "Civilized Campus" and "Model School for Rule of Law in the Autonomous Region". It has won the title of "Safe Campus" in Guyuan City many times and was rated as a "Garden-style Unit" by Guyuan City. The school is a member unit of the "Three Norths" Region Normal Colleges and Universities Cooperation Conference, a member unit of the National New Local Undergraduate Colleges and Universities Joint Conference, and a member unit of the "Belt and Road" University Alliance. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the school has established a new goal of “upgrading to a university and creating a doctorate”. It will be guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adhere to the socialist direction of running schools, implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people, adhere to the main body of normal education, highlight the advantages and characteristics of teacher education, and promote the coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as liberal arts, science, engineering, art, and sports. It will take the cultivation of high-quality, professional, and innovative talents that meet the needs of economic and social development as its direction, the construction of a high-level teaching and research university as its goal, and the service of basic education and economic and social development as its mission. By 2025, it will have built a high-level normal university and a national normal education base in the western region with distinct characteristics and advantages in teacher education and strong ability to serve local development.
