Liaodong University is located on the banks of the Yalu River and the Yellow Sea. It is located in Dandong City, Liaoning Province, the heroic place where the Korean War was launched and the largest and most beautiful border city in China. It is across the river from Sinuiju City, North Korea. It is the closest national university to the border and the only provincial public undergraduate college in the country with the characteristics of border, coastal and riverside locations. Over the years, the school has been based in the local area, serving Liaoning, facing the Northeast, going to the whole country, and connecting with the world. It has insisted on taking the path of "comprehensive", "applied" and "internationalized" school-running, and strived to build a distinctive and high-quality local applied university. Liaodong University started its schooling in 1912 as the private Andong Samyu National High School (Horticulture School), and higher education began in 1948 at Andong Provincial Agricultural College. After the founding of New China, there were more than ten colleges and universities with a long history of running schools, distinctive regional characteristics and profound cultural heritage in Dandong. After continuous construction, reform and development, they were merged and established as Liaodong University in April 2003. The school has traditional professional advantages such as agricultural technology, teacher training, textile, finance, and medical care. It has both agricultural and medical science and engineering foundations and financial and teacher training backgrounds. It currently has 13 secondary colleges with full-time students, 50 undergraduate majors, and 19 higher vocational majors, covering nine disciplines such as economics, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. It has been approved as one national first-class major, three national pilot majors, and 21 provincial high-quality majors. It is the only college in Liaoning Province that undertakes the training program of rural assistant general practitioners. The school currently has 1,529 faculty and staff and 960 full-time teachers. "Dual-qualified and dual-capable" teachers account for 50%, senior professional title teachers account for 49%, and master's degree teachers account for 85%. It has a group of experts and scholars such as experts with special allowances from the State Council, provincial "Hundreds of Thousands of Talents Projects" at the 100-level and 1,000-level, provincial outstanding teachers, and provincial teaching masters. The course on the spirit of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea was selected for the Central Organization Department's excellent party class exhibition, and the special lecture report was commended by the Central Propaganda Department, building a "strong carrier" for cultural inheritance. It has three provincial key laboratories, including Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Functional Textile Materials, Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Water Environment Radioactive Early Warning Monitoring Technology and Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of New Blueberry Variety Breeding and Post-harvest Processing; the conquering of key core technologies such as blueberry and small berry planting technology, and bumblebee year-round breeding has promoted the development of the industry; the key core technologies of "combing and yarn quality", "environmentally friendly flame retardants" and local specialty tussah silk ecological dyeing and finishing technology have reached the international advanced level; the anti-static fabric developed is used in the "Shenzhou VII" space suit to accompany astronauts in space travel, stimulating "new vitality" for quality improvement. Adhere to the moral education, teach students in accordance with their aptitude, strengthen their abilities, and focus on quality, and strive to promote the high-quality development of vocational education, and focus on opening up the connection channels between secondary vocational education, higher vocational education, applied undergraduate education, and even professional degree graduate education. There are "three approaches" education and teaching links that are close to the real working environment, close to the real production line, and close to the actual operation process, and there is a "three-connection" talent training model that connects professional settings with industrial needs, course content with professional standards, and teaching processes with production processes; there are both order-based training, school-enterprise cooperation classes, and the continuous construction of industry colleges, which builds a "bridge" for talent growth. We have established the first “Confucius Institute” in North Korea.
