Xinjiang Engineering College is an ordinary undergraduate college organized by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and supervised by the Education Department. It is one of the first 100 application-oriented pilot universities in the country. The school is located in the beautiful Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. The school was built because of coal and prospered because of industry. It is a school that inherits the red gene and continues the fine tradition. In 1958, 163 officers and soldiers of the Second Preparatory School of the General Rear Service Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army transferred to Xinjiang and established the Urumqi Coal Mine School. In 1985, it was renamed Xinjiang Coal College, and in 1994 it was renamed Xinjiang Industrial College. In 2012, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to Xinjiang Engineering College. For more than 60 years, the school has adhered to the Populus euphratica spirit of "hard work, taking root in the frontier, self-improvement, and willingness to contribute", and cultivated the school motto of "unity of knowledge and action, pursuit of excellence". The school party committee has put forward the working ideas of "strengthening party building, maintaining stability, grasping reform, promoting transformation, seeking development, and creating first-class", following the "five persistences", grasping the "five opportunities", enhancing the "five competitiveness", carrying forward the "five spirits", and doing a good job in the "five services", working together towards the three "five-year goals", and accelerating the construction of a distinctive and high-level applied university. The school has four campuses, covering an area of nearly 2,000 acres and a school building area of more than 440,000 square meters. At present, there are 14 secondary colleges, 1 teaching department, and 40 undergraduate majors, involving four disciplines: engineering, economics, management, and art. It has 1 national first-class major, 1 major in the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, 10 first-class undergraduate majors in the autonomous region, and the mining engineering discipline has been selected as a key discipline in the autonomous region. There is currently 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 3 key laboratories of the autonomous region, 1 key laboratory of the autonomous region education department, 1 autonomous region-level scientific and technological achievement transformation and technology transfer center, 1 autonomous region engineering technology research center, 1 autonomous region experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 autonomous region postdoctoral innovation practice base. 10 key scientific research platforms at the university level, 61 on-campus laboratories, and 4 joint laboratories between universities and enterprises. The library has a collection of 1.15 million paper books, 540,000 electronic books, and 37 Chinese and foreign databases. The school adheres to the strategy of strengthening the school with talents. There are 1,230 faculty members, including 790 full-time teachers, 87% of whom are teachers with master's degrees or above; 272 teachers with associate senior titles or above, accounting for 35% of full-time teachers; and 50% of professional teachers are "dual-qualified and dual-capable" teachers. The school has 1 member of the National Higher Education Institutions Setting Evaluation Committee, 1 member of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Ideological and Political Theory Course Teaching Steering Committee, 1 member of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Safety Science and Engineering Professional Teaching Steering Committee, 1 National Excellent Youth Fund Winner, 1 National Distinguished Young Expert, 1 expert of the Autonomous Region Government Expert Advisory Group, 30 "Tianshan Scholars" and "Tianshan Talents", 3 Autonomous Region Teaching Masters, 1 Autonomous Region Excellent Teacher, and 6 Autonomous Region Teaching Experts. The school has vigorously improved its scientific and technological innovation and social service capabilities. In recent years, the school has undertaken 494 scientific research projects at various levels of the state and autonomous region, 21 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 81 provincial and ministerial projects. Won 1 first prize and 4 second prizes in the Autonomous Region Science and Technology Progress Award. There are currently 2 Tianshan innovation teams, and the Xinjiang Engineering College has built the Western Energy Development Research Institute of Xinjiang Aid Colleges and 25 research institutes, the Xinjiang Research Institute of Liaoning University of Engineering and Technology, etc. There are 158 industry-education integration bases and 153 employment bases. The school took the lead in establishing the Xinjiang Engineering College Coal, Coal Power, and Coal Chemical Industry-Education Integration Alliance. The school focuses on implementing the fundamental task of moral education and attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' quality education and innovation ability. In the past three years, students have won 110 innovative and entrepreneurial projects and won a total of 37 awards in the National College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition. Students participated in various disciplines and professional competitions at the provincial and ministerial levels and above and won 575 awards. Among them, the College Student Mechanical Design Innovation Association won the honorary title of "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team". The school currently has nearly 20,000 full-time students.
