The predecessor of Sichuan University for Nationalities was the "Kangding National Teachers College" founded in 1985. In 1992, the school was renamed Kangding National Teachers College. In 2004, Ganzi Agricultural School, Ganzi Finance School and Kangding Normal School were integrated and merged. In March 2009, it was upgraded to a provincial full-time general undergraduate college with the approval of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the State Council's education administrative department. The school is nestled in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the roof of the world, at the foot of Gongga Mountain, the king of Shu Mountains. Sichuan University for Nationalities has developed from the desolate Banjieheba at the beginning of its establishment to today, when it has been carrying out general undergraduate education for 15 years. It has 15 secondary colleges, 35 undergraduate majors, and ethnic preparatory education. There are 15,000 students on campus, including 5,000 ethnic minority students. Since July 2023, 3,000 teachers, students and staff have moved into the Luding campus. It has built a Kangba Literature Library and a Tibetan Ancient Books Library, which have collected and sorted out more than 30,000 volumes (letters) of documents from the Kangba region, and has a complete set of classic scriptures from the Derge Scripture Printing House, laying a solid foundation for building a good Ganzi Prefecture Document Center and promoting the deepening of research on Tibetan-related areas. It has built 5 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 21 provincial first-class courses. It has built 1 Gongga Plan construction discipline for the "Double First-Class" construction of Sichuan Province's higher education institutions, 4 key disciplines of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, 1 Sichuan Province Tibet-related area characteristic science popularization base, 1 provincial philosophy and social science key research base, 1 provincial philosophy and social science popularization base, 12 state-level characteristic research centers and science popularization bases, forming the advantages and characteristics of studying ethnic regions. Sichuan Nationalities University has always adhered to serving the national and regional development strategies and building Tibetan-related areas. In accordance with the requirements of the "National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone", the national "Eastern Digital West Computing" project, the "Four Synchronous Modernizations, Urban-Rural Integration, and Five Districts Co-prosperity" development strategy, "New Industrialization", "Urban-Rural Integration Development", "Northwest Sichuan Ecological Demonstration Zone" and "Educational Ganzi, Digital Ganzi, Ecological Ganzi", it has anchored the goal of cultivating innovative application talents, continued to deepen the reform of the "employment-enrollment-training" linkage mechanism, promoted high-quality employment through the integration of industry and education, optimized and adjusted the discipline and professional structure in line with the needs of industrial development, and cultivated innovative application talents that meet the needs of regional economic and social development.
