Hebei North University is located in Zhangjiakou, one of the venues for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics. It integrates the spirit of the Great Wall grassland and the essence of Zhangyuan culture. It has a long history of running schools and profound cultural accumulation. It is a comprehensive provincial undergraduate college with the right to confer master's degrees in the northwest of Hebei Province. The school was approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and was established in September 2003 by the merger of three provincial universities: Zhangjiakou Medical College, Zhangjiakou Normal College and Zhangjiakou Agricultural College. The predecessor of Zhangjiakou Medical College was the Jin-Cha-Ji Bethune Health School established in 1945. In December 1982, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education and named Zhangjiakou Medical College; Zhangjiakou Normal College was founded in 1950; Zhangjiakou Agricultural College was founded in 1923. In the nearly 100 years of school-running history, the school has accumulated rich experience in running schools, has a high level of teaching and scientific research, and has made important contributions to local economic construction and social development. The university currently has four campuses: West Campus, East Campus, South Campus and North Campus. The campus covers an area of 1.0453 million square meters and a building area of 476,000 square meters. It has complete modern teaching facilities, advanced campus network, experimental center, provincial experimental teaching demonstration center and basic laboratories of various disciplines. The library has more than 2.08 million paper books. There are 2 directly affiliated hospitals, 2 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and 296 various professional practice teaching bases. Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital is the intersection of Hebei, Shanxi and Mongolia. It is the largest, most comprehensive, most advanced equipment, and has a high level of diagnosis and treatment. It is a tertiary-level A-class hospital and a national baby-friendly hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation. The school currently has 5,242 faculty and staff (including two directly affiliated hospitals). Among them, there are 1,568 staff members in the school headquarters, 197 teachers with senior professional titles, 430 teachers with deputy senior professional titles; 1,124 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees; and 1,205 master's supervisors inside and outside the school. The school currently has more than 25,000 full-time students, including more than 1,500 master's students and 290 international students. It has a medical school, 18 secondary schools and 1 teaching department, namely the School of Basic Medicine, School of Medical Laboratory Science, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Science, School of Law and Politics (School of Teacher Education), School of Marxism, School of Literature, School of Foreign Languages, School of Economics and Management, School of Information Science and Engineering, School of Art, School of Agriculture and Forestry Science and Technology, School of Animal Science and Technology, School of International Education, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, School of Continuing Education and Department of Public Sports. The school has a complete range of disciplines, covering 11 disciplines including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, literature, management, law, economics, art, history and education, forming a development pattern with medicine and agriculture as the advantages, and other disciplines intersecting, integrating and promoting each other. There are 4 first-level master's degree authorization points in clinical medicine, pharmacy, basic medicine and food science and engineering, and 5 master's professional degree authorization categories in clinical medicine, agriculture, traditional Chinese medicine, education and veterinary medicine. There are three key disciplines in Hebei Province, namely pharmacology, medical informatics, and pathology and pathophysiology; four key development disciplines in Hebei Province, namely crop cultivation and tillage, agricultural economic management, animal nutrition and feed science, and human anatomy and histology; one key medical discipline in Hebei Province, namely orthopedics; one provincial key medical development discipline, namely respiratory and critical care; seven provincial key clinical specialties, namely orthopedics, gynecology, otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, neurology, dermatology, thoracic surgery, and pediatric surgery; and five provincial key clinical cultivation specialties, namely stomatology, geriatrics, anesthesiology, general surgery, and medical imaging. The school has 76 undergraduate majors, among which clinical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and medical laboratory technology are traditional advantageous undergraduate majors with more than 30 years of undergraduate education history; the pharmacy major is a national characteristic major; medical laboratory technology is the first and characteristic major opened by colleges and universities in North China; 4 majors including agronomy have been selected as the first batch of pilot projects for the reform of the education and training program for outstanding agricultural and forestry talents; the medical laboratory technology major and the pharmacy major are national first-class undergraduate major construction points, and there are 9 provincial first-class undergraduate majors including forensic medicine, clinical medicine, anesthesiology, traditional Chinese medicine, agronomy, Chinese language and literature, financial management, computer science and technology, mathematics and applied mathematics, and 15 majors including preschool education are provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points; 2 majors including computer science and technology and veterinary medicine are applied transformation demonstration majors in Hebei Province. The school has 8 provincial excellent grassroots teaching organizations, 5 provincial excellent teaching teams, 5 provincial ideological and political teaching teams, and 5 provincial ideological and political teachers; 5 courses such as pathophysiology, experimental diagnosis, clinical microbiology and testing, surgery and animal physiology are provincial quality courses, and the middle school Chinese teaching design is a provincial quality resource sharing course for teacher education; 15 courses such as histology and embryology are provincial first-class undergraduate construction courses; 5 courses such as biochemistry and molecular biology are provincial ideological and political demonstration courses. There are 6 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, including the pathophysiology experimental teaching demonstration center, the medical laboratory experimental teaching demonstration center, the clinical skills experimental teaching demonstration center, the information technology experimental teaching demonstration center, the medical morphology experimental teaching center, and the traditional Chinese medicine experimental teaching center; the ingenuity engineering course ideological and political teaching research demonstration center is a provincial course ideological and political teaching research demonstration center. The school is one of the first batch of national first aid education pilot schools. It currently has 6 provincial research and development platforms, namely: Hebei Provincial Key Laboratory of Neuropharmacology, Hebei Provincial Key Laboratory of Agricultural Product and Food Quality and Safety Analysis and Testing, Hebei Provincial Population Health Information Engineering Technology Research Center, Hebei Province Oleander Cultivation Technology Innovation Center, Hebei Province's Second Batch of "2011 Collaborative Innovation Centers" - Potato Industry Collaborative Innovation Center, Hebei Province Photovoltaic Conductive Film Engineering Research Center. There are 5 provincial bases, namely: Hebei Provincial Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education Institutions - Ecological Construction and Industrial Development Research Center, Hebei Provincial Key Contact Think Tank - Capital Two Districts Ecological Construction and Regional Development Research Think Tank, Hebei Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Base - Hebei Capital Two Districts Construction Research Base, Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Association Think Tank Research Base - Hebei Science and Technology Association Think Tank Capital "Two Districts" Green Development Research Base, Hebei Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Base. There are 3 provincial science popularization bases, namely: Hebei Traditional Chinese Medicine Science Popularization Base, Hebei Science Popularization Demonstration Base - Hebei North University Capital Two Districts Construction Research and Education Base, Hebei North University Intelligent Technology Science Popularization Demonstration Base, and 1 Hebei Ecological Agriculture Star Creation Space. The school's international exchanges are becoming increasingly active, and the international cooperation in education is constantly strengthening. It has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with universities and research institutes in countries and regions such as Russia, the United Kingdom, Finland, the United States, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, and has hired well-known scholars at home and abroad as part-time or visiting professors of our school. The school has established good exchanges and cooperation with foreign universities for international students. At present, the school has students from 10 countries including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana studying medicine at the school. In 2010, the school joined the 121 dual degree program of the "China-US Talent Training Program" and launched the "1+2+1 China-US Talent Training Program", and established substantive cooperative relations with 41 state universities in the United States in terms of student training, teacher exchanges, and discipline construction. In recent years, the school has successively launched international exchange projects such as the "China-Finland Talent Training Program" and the "China-Russia Government Scholarship Program", and has continuously selected outstanding teachers and students to study and study abroad. The school sponsors and publicly publishes the "Journal of Hebei North University" (Social Science Edition, Natural Science Edition), "Journal of Neuropharmacology" and "Journal of Hebei North University".
