Shanghai Sanda University is a full-time private university founded in June 1992 by some professors from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Peking University and Tsinghua University under the background of the development and opening up of Pudong, Shanghai. In March 2002, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be a full-time general undergraduate college, and it is the first private undergraduate college in Shanghai. In 2005, it was added as a bachelor's degree awarding institution. In 2015, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and passed the review and evaluation in 2020. In 2017, it was included in the construction plan of Shanghai's new doctoral and master's degree awarding institutions, and in 2021, it was included in the Shanghai Higher Education Degree Program Cultivation Plan (2021-2025). "Shanda" is the homonym of the three majors, implying the spirit of the fir tree that is upright, self-reliant and self-reliant. Academician Yang Yu, Academician Xie Xide and Academician Ni Weidou successively served as the first three presidents of the school. In the 31 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the principle of non-profit public welfare education and adhered to the school-running philosophy of "integrity, fairness and quality". The school is a financial and economic college, and is positioned as a multidisciplinary, international, and high-level university of applied technology. The school's vision is to "build itself into the most attractive private university in the Yangtze River Delta region", and its mission is to "let every student gain the development increment that suits them", and to lay a "1+M+N" (major major + expansion field + practical skills) training path for students, so that students can become "reliable, useful, and far-reaching" applied talents. The school has two campuses in Pudong, Shanghai and Jiashan, Zhejiang, with a total area of 808 acres. There are 8 major disciplines, including economics, law, literature, engineering, management, art, medicine, and education, 44 undergraduate majors, and 13 secondary teaching units. There are more than 15,000 full-time students, including more than 14,000 undergraduates (accounting for 93.7%). There are more than 60,000 graduates, and the average employment rate in the past five years has exceeded 95%. There are 937 full-time teachers, of which 43.65% are senior professional teachers and 34.79% are doctoral degree teachers. The school has 2 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites and 15 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction sites; 15 first-class undergraduate courses, 39 key courses, and 6 ideological and political demonstration courses in Shanghai universities; the first prize of the National Excellent Textbook; 4 municipal teaching achievement awards, including 2 first prizes and 2 second prizes (2022); 1 Shanghai University First-Class Undergraduate Construction Leading Plan Cultivation Project; 2 Shanghai New Engineering and New Liberal Arts Teaching Reform Projects; 1 first batch of municipal virtual teaching and research room construction pilot projects, etc. Selected as the first batch of key experimental universities for the construction of "big ideological and political courses"; Municipal Ideological and Political Teaching Research Demonstration Center. Approved for national social science, national natural, and Shanghai natural science foundation projects; 287 off-campus scientific research projects were approved, with a research funding of 22.81 million yuan (2021-2022). Students participated in the national college student competition rankings and won 75 first and second prizes (2022), including 2 of the 56 gold medals selected in Shanghai to participate in the National Skills Competition. The school deepens the integration of industry and education, co-founds physical colleges such as Hudong Institute of Technology and Fashion College with large state-owned enterprises, co-builds platform colleges such as Huawei ICT College and Huaqin College with leading enterprises, and jointly builds teaching hospitals with tertiary hospitals such as Renji. The Modern Smart Service Industry College and the Fashion Consumer Goods Industry College have been approved as municipal key modern industrial college construction projects. There are more than 160 professional teaching laboratories such as the Hotel Management Experimental Teaching Center, the Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Experimental Teaching Center, the Modern Medical Technology Comprehensive Experimental Center, and various professional teaching laboratories on campus. The school has established the Shanghai Private Colleges and Universities Ideological and Political Courses Collaboration Center and the Shanghai Private Colleges and Universities Ideological and Political Courses Teacher Training Base. The school has established inter-school cooperation and exchange relations and 61 foreign cooperation projects with 124 colleges and universities in 28 countries and regions, and has cooperated with overseas universities to open 8 undergraduate and master's degree bilingual teaching programs. In 2023, the first overseas Confucius Classroom was approved (in cooperation with the South African Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Center). The school's strategic goal is to "create high quality and leap to a new level." In terms of education and teaching, the school has been upgraded from undergraduate to postgraduate level, forming a landmark achievement; in terms of social services, it has made new breakthroughs in the integration of industry and education, the Sanda brand, and the transformation of projects, funds, and applied research and development; in terms of school efficiency, it has promoted the gathering and efficient use of resources, and enhanced the school's sense of identity and cultural competitiveness.
