1959: The predecessor of Shahid Beheshti University, "National University of Iran", was established.

1960: The school officially started, initially with only the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning and the Department of Finance and Economics, with a total of 174 students. 1

1978: By 1978, the university had developed into a comprehensive university with multiple faculties, including the Department of Humanities, the Department of Basic Sciences, the Department of Law, the Department of Earth Sciences, the Department of Statistics and Informatics, and the Department of Education and Psychology. 6

1980-1982: During the Islamic Revolution, the university was renamed "Iran University".

1986: The Medical School was separated from the university and became Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. 6

1990: The university began to pay more attention to graduate education, especially doctoral programs and research programs. 3
