The Chemnitz University of Technology is a public university with a long history in Germany. After the merger and restructuring of the state school in 1878, it was renamed the State Chemnitz Institute of Industrial Technology, and then in 1900 and 1929 In 1963, the school was promoted to an industrial university. In 1986, it was officially named Chemnitz University of Technology. In 1992, the former "Zitau Education College" was incorporated and the school was renamed Chemnitz University of Technology - Zitau Branch. Later, with the establishment of the Department of Economic Sciences and the Department of Philosophical Sciences, the school was renamed Chemnitz University of Technology in 1997 and became a comprehensive university of science and technology. Founded in 1836.
