History and establishment time
In 1991, the Bavarian cabinet decided to establish new universities of applied sciences in Bavaria, including the University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden. On May 1, 1994, the University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden was officially established. It was originally named Fachhochschule Amberg-Weiden. In March 2008, it was renamed Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften – Fachhochschule Amberg-Weiden. In 2013, it was officially renamed Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden.
