History
The predecessor of the University of Bonn was the Academy of the Principality of Cologne, which was established in 1777 and converted into a university in 1784. When Napoleon I attacked the Holy Roman Empire, the Rhine region was occupied and the school was forced to disband. After Napoleon's defeat, the school was founded in October 1818 at the initiative of Humboldt and with the help of King Friedrich William III of Prussia. On the 18th, it became the sixth university in Prussia, namely Bonn Rhein Friedrich Wilhelm University.
