History and Establishment
In 1987, Governor Adetunji Olulin, then the military governor of Oyo State (now divided into Oyo and Osun States), received a request from the Governing Council of Ibadan Polytechnic to establish a state university. On March 13, 1990, the request was accepted by the Federal Military Government of Nigeria. On April 23, 1990, the decree establishing Oyo State University of Science and Technology was signed by Colonel Sasanya Olesanya. In 1991, the school was renamed Ladoke Akintola University of Science and Technology in memory of the great politician, lawyer and statesman, Chief Ladoke Akintola.
