History and establishment time
The history of the University of Jos can be traced back to November 1971, when it was a satellite campus of the University of Ibadan. In January 1972, the school welcomed its first batch of preparatory students. In October 1973, the school began to offer art degree courses, and in 1974, science and education degree courses. In October 1975, the then military government announced that it would be established as an independent university. In October 1976, the reorganized University of Jos began teaching, with 575 students in the existing four colleges. In 1977, the school added graduate courses.
