Introduction

The Medical University of Gdansk is one of the largest and most modern medical universities in northern Poland. It is located in the scenic city of Gdansk, an important port city and historical and cultural city in Poland.

History and establishment time

The history of the university can be traced back to the Gdańskie Gimnazjum Akademickie, which was established in 1558 and established the Faculty of Science and Medicine. In 1935, the Senate of Gdańsk established the Faculty of Practical Medicine on the basis of the Municipal Hospital built in 1907-1911. In 1940, it was renamed the Danzig Medical Faculty, offering a 5-year medical course.

On October 8, 1945, the Medical University of Gdańsk was officially established. In 1950, its name was changed to Gdansk Medical College. In 1975, a branch was opened in Bydgoszcz. In 1984, the branch became an independent college. In 1993, the Inter-University Biotechnology Institute was established. In the 2005/2006 academic year, the Faculty of Health Sciences was opened.

School Strength

Faculty: There are nearly 1,000 academic teachers, including more than 100 professors, who have rich experience and deep expertise in medical education and research.

Scientific Research Achievements: It is one of the only two medical universities in Poland with A+ ratings for chemistry and experimental medicine. The Faculty of Pharmacology and the Faculty of Medicine were once designated by the Polish government as one of the six major national research centers in Poland. They have achieved many results in medical research, published a large number of high-quality medical research papers, and participated in many international cooperative research projects.

International Cooperation: Joined the EU Lifelong Learning Program, carried out extensive academic exchanges and cooperation with more than 50 medical universities, scientific research centers and hospitals in Europe, and actively participated in Erasmus + Program and other international education programs provide students with rich international exchange opportunities.

Key laboratories: No clear key laboratory information has been found yet, but the school has advanced scientific research facilities and equipment, providing good conditions for medical research. Its Interventional Medicine Center (IMC) is one of the most modern hospitals in Europe, and the Non-Invasive Medicine Center (NIMC) is one of the largest and newest comprehensive hospitals in Poland, providing strong support for medical research and clinical practice.

Key disciplines: Clinical medicine, basic medicine, pharmacy and other disciplines are key disciplines of the Medical University of Gdansk, ranking 292nd in the ranking of clinical and medical sciences. Ranked second in Poland in terms of efficiency and quality of medical publications.
