Introduction

The University of Žilina is a modern and influential public comprehensive university in Slovakia, famous for its teaching and research in transportation, engineering technology and related fields.

Overview

Student size: Currently, about 8,000 students are educated in 169 accredited study areas in 7 faculties of the university, covering all forms and degrees of university study.

History and establishment time

The school was established on October 1, 1953 in Prague as the Railway Academy.

In 1959, the institution was renamed the University of Transportation and moved to Žilina.

In 1980, due to the increasing importance of communications in the curriculum and the change of the school's research direction, it was renamed the University of Transportation and Communications.

November 20, 1996 On the same day, according to the law passed by the Slovak National Assembly, it was renamed the University of Žilina again.

Teaching: It provides higher education at three levels: undergraduate, master and doctoral, covering full-time and part-time forms. All colleges provide supplementary pedagogy courses for students and graduates. The school focuses on cultivating students' practical ability and professional quality. Its graduates are highly favored by employers due to their good comprehensive quality and practical ability, and have maintained a high competitiveness in the job market for a long time.

Scientific research: It actively participates in domestic and foreign scientific research projects. In 2013, it established two important scientific research sites, the University Science and Technology Park and the Research Center. The school participates in 200 national and 65 international scientific research projects every year, and organizes about 60 scientific and professional activities. Its scientific research results not only have an important impact on teaching activities, but also promote international cooperation and close integration with practice. For example, the author team of the School of Mechanical Engineering has won the Technology Transfer Award.

International Exchange: It has established extensive contacts with many foreign universities. Professors and researchers actively participate in international education and scientific research projects, such as the EU's Tempus, Copernicus, Cost, LLP/Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Than Ceepus, National Scholarship Program, DAAD and other projects. Its academic staff also participated in the EU's 6th and 7th Framework Programs.
