Establishment Time: Its origin can be traced back to the Dar es Salaam Medical College established in 1963. In 1991, it became a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam - Muhimbili University School of Health Sciences. In 2007, it was officially upgraded to Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.
Geographical Location: Located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, it has two campuses. The main campus is in the west of Upanga in Dar es Salaam, and the other is the Mloganzila campus 31 kilometers west of Muhimbili Hospital.
Historical Evolution
In 1963, the school was established as the Dar es Salaam Medical College.
In 1968, it became the Medical College of the University of Dar es Salaam.
In 1976, the School of Medicine was merged into Muhibili Hospital to form the Muhibili Medical Centre.
In 1991, the School of Medicine was upgraded to a college of the University of Dar es Salaam, the Muhibili University College of Health Sciences, by an Act of Parliament.
In 2000, the government dissolved the Muhibili Medical Centre and established the Muhibili University College of Health Sciences and the Muhibili National Hospital, which are related but independent.
In 2005, the 1991 Act of Parliament establishing the Muhibili University College of Health Sciences was repealed.
In 2007, the Muhibili University of Health and Allied Sciences was officially established in accordance with Section 1 of the University Charter.

Student size: In 2018, there were 3,861 students, including 3,172 undergraduates, 662 postgraduates, and 29 doctoral students.
Research achievements: The school has participated in more than 40 major research projects, ranging from "Vitamin trials for women and children infected with HIV" to "Health insurance research in developing countries". Research partners include the European Union and many European and American universities.

Featured laboratories: There is a special traditional medicine research institute that focuses on the research and development of traditional medicine.
Department settings: The school has five colleges and one institute, offering undergraduate courses such as biomedical engineering, midwifery, nurse anesthesia, and eleven graduate courses.
