History: Its predecessor can be traced back to the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital. In 2016, the Zambian government began to expand the Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital to 850 beds, and at the same time began to build a training annex facility near the hospital that can accommodate 3,000 students. In 2018, Levy Mwanawasa University of Medicine was officially established through statutory instruments No. 39 and 40 of 2018, in accordance with Section 132 of the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013.
School Strength: It is the fourth public university in Zambia and the largest institution dedicated to health training in the country, offering a variety of education and training programs for health professionals. The school has collaborated with international institutions such as Heidelberg University and participated in projects such as Blended Learning in Zambia (BLiZ2).
Educational Philosophy: The mission is to "educate and train health professionals through a distributed network of academic health complexes, using practice and competency-based training methods, and contribute to the achievement of universal health coverage in Zambia." Fees: Tuition fees range from 225€ to 825€ per semester. For example, the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) has 12 semesters, 825€ per semester; most majors such as Bachelor of Science (Clinical Anesthesiology) have 8-10 semesters, 545€ per semester; some public health-related Bachelor of Science majors have 465€ per semester.
Campus environment: The main campus is located in Chainama Hill, and the campus includes a National Health Reference Library that can accommodate 1,000 people and a teaching area that can accommodate 3,000 students. The school integrates the Chainama College of Health Sciences, the Dental Training School, the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital and the Chainama Hills Hospital to form an integrated medical education and practice campus.
