Introduction
The University of West Bohemia is a public comprehensive university located in Pilsen, Czech Republic. It was founded in 1991 and is a relatively new but rapidly developing and highly reputable institution of higher education in the Czech Republic.

History
Its predecessor can be traced back to the Pilsen Branch of the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague, which was established in 1948. It became an independent Faculty of Education in 1953 and was renamed the Department of Education in 1964.
In 1949, the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Pilsen was established as part of the Czech Technical University in Prague. It became an independent school in 1953 and was divided into the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1960.
In 1990 In 1991, the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Economics were established.
In 1991, the Faculty of Education merged with the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to form the University of West Bohemia.
In 1993, the Faculty of Law was established; in 2001, the Faculty of Philosophy and Art was established; in 2008, a private college in Pilsen was incorporated to form the Faculty of Health Sciences; in 2013, the Faculty of Design and Art was established.
