Guangdong University of Technology was founded in 2003. It is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education, focusing on engineering, management, economics, literature, art and other disciplines. It is located in Dongguan, an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It has two campuses in Nancheng and Songshan Lake, covering an area of more than 2,000 acres. The school was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 2011, obtained the right to confer bachelor's degrees in 2015, passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education in 2018, and was successfully selected as a Guangdong Provincial Master's Degree Conferment Project Construction Unit in 2021 and was approved to establish a Guangdong Provincial Doctoral Work Station. The school has 11 secondary colleges and currently has more than 35,000 full-time students. At the beginning of its establishment, the school established the development vision of "creating a century-old institution and cultivating industry elites" and the school motto of "respecting morality, advocating learning, refining art, and practicing diligently", and fully implemented the school-running philosophy of "student-centered, talent-oriented, application-oriented, harmonious innovation, and pursuit of excellence" and the educational philosophy of "moral education first, ability-oriented, unity of knowledge and action, courage to innovate, and comprehensive development". It also clarified the school-running positioning system, namely the school-running goal positioning of "high-level application and innovation university", the school-running level positioning of "focusing on undergraduate education and carrying out professional degree master's education in a timely manner"; "based in Dongguan, facing the Greater Bay Area, serving the 'scientific and technological innovation + advanced manufacturing' Dongguan city construction, the 'Guangshen Science and Technology Innovation Corridor' construction, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction". The school closely optimizes the discipline and professional system around the key development industries in Dongguan. At present, there are 47 undergraduate majors and 13 junior college majors. Software engineering is a provincial key discipline, and software engineering is a national first-class professional construction site; three majors such as network engineering are selected as first-class undergraduate professional construction sites in Guangdong Province; three majors such as fashion design and engineering are provincial characteristic cultivation majors; three majors such as automotive service engineering are provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors; six majors such as mechanical and electronic engineering have passed the IEET engineering and technology education certification; 15 majors such as e-commerce are carrying out ACBSP international business professional certification; 22 courses are shortlisted as provincial first-class courses. The school actively promotes the reform of talent training mode, deepens school-enterprise cooperation, and has been approved by the Ministry of Education for 94 industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects; it has jointly built 11 industrial colleges with well-known companies and industry associations such as Huawei, Siemens, and Tencent Cloud, and has cooperated to open 84 innovation classes, and has been recognized as a provincial demonstration industrial college. The school has been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a special training base for "Internet Learning Space for Everyone" and an excellent school for the popularization of Internet learning space applications. The school fully implements the "talent-strengthening school" strategy and has formed a sufficient number of high-quality teachers. At present, 90% of full-time teachers have a master's degree or above, and 27 teachers have won honorary titles such as "Outstanding Teachers of Southern Guangdong". In recent years, teachers have published more than 10,500 academic papers in various academic journals, including more than 1,380 in the four major retrieval and Chinese core journals; won more than 450 scientific research awards at the municipal and departmental levels; published more than 320 textbooks and academic works; and presided over more than 490 scientific research projects at the municipal and departmental levels, including National Social Science Fund projects and Ministry of Education humanities and social science projects. The school has won the second prize of the 8th, 9th and 10th Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards; and won 2 first prizes, 5 second prizes and 9 third prizes in the 5th and 6th Guangdong Provincial College (Undergraduate) Young Teachers Teaching Competition. In recent years, more than 300 outstanding students have been admitted to master's programs in world-class universities such as the University of Edinburgh, the University of Nottingham, Baylor University, the University of Sydney, and the University of Melbourne. After more than 20 years of development, the school's educational strength has steadily increased, and its social reputation and influence have continued to improve.
