In 1979, according to the Council of Ministers of the USSR, By Decree No. 632 of June 29, 1979, the Gomel branch began to operate as an independent institution - the Central Union Gomel Institute of Cooperation. In 1992, the institute was affiliated to the Belarusian Consumer Cooperative Union, and in 1993 it was identified as a basic education institution in the cooperative education system of the Republic of Belarus. In 2001, the Gomel Institute of Cooperation was renamed the Belarusian Consumer Cooperative University of Trade and Economics.
