Changchun University of Electronic Science and Technology is a high-level modern industrial university with optoelectronics as its feature. The school was founded in 2001. It was formerly known as the Optoelectronic Information College of Changchun Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics. In 2002, it was renamed the Optoelectronic Information College of Changchun University of Science and Technology. In April 2004, it was confirmed as an independent college by the Ministry of Education. In 2020, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be converted into an independent undergraduate private general college and university, and was renamed Changchun University of Electronic Science and Technology. It is the only science and engineering applied university with optoelectronics as its feature in the country, the only private university of electronic science and technology in the country, and ranks first among private universities in optoelectronics and electronic communications in the country. Wang Daheng, the "Father of Optics" and winner of the "Two Bombs and One Satellite Medal of Merit", Yao Jianquan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jiang Huilin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, have successively served as honorary deans of the school. Relying on the professional advantages of Changchun University of Science and Technology, the "Cradle of Chinese Optical Talents", Changchun Institute of Electronic Science and Technology focuses on the development needs of national strategic emerging industries, aims at the requirements of national new engineering and new liberal arts construction, and is based on the development direction of pillar industries and emerging industries in Jilin Province.
