The University of Kragujevac is a public university in Kragujevac, Serbia. It is the oldest and largest higher education institution in Šumadija and Western Serbia.

History and Establishment

The university was established on May 21, 1976, but its history can be traced back to the establishment of the first higher education institution in Serbia, the Lyceum, in Kragujevac by decree of Prince Miloš Obrenović during the Serbian Principality in 1838. In the 1960s, the first modern higher education institutions appeared in Kragujevac, which eventually led to the establishment of the university in 1976.
