Ningbo University of Science and Technology is a full-time general college approved by the Ministry of Education of China and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province to implement undergraduate education. The college was established in April 1999 and is the first state-owned private secondary college in Zhejiang Province to conduct a pilot reform of the college system. In November 2004, it was confirmed by the Ministry of Education as one of the first independent colleges in Zhejiang Province. In December of the same year, it passed the special inspection of the Ministry of Education on school conditions and teaching work and received the highest level of evaluation. In 2010, the college was awarded the honorary title of the first batch of "National Advanced Independent Colleges". In July 2018, the college successfully passed the acceptance of the standardized establishment of independent colleges in Zhejiang Province. In September 2019, the college moved from Zhenhai District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province to Cixi City. In 2024, the college ranked 4th in the Alumni Association's National Independent College Ranking. The college has set up majors according to the development trend of modern science and technology and the needs of local economic and social development. It has 10 secondary colleges, including the College of Humanities, the College of Information Engineering, the College of Economics and Law, the College of Management, the College of Design and Art, the College of Life Sciences and Materials Chemistry, the College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, the College of Civil Engineering, the College of Basic Sciences/College of Marxism and the College of Continuing Education, and 45 undergraduate majors, covering 9 major disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, management, science, engineering, medicine, and art. It has basically formed a discipline and professional system with complete categories, reasonable structure, and complementary advantages. The college recruits students from all over the country, and currently has nearly 15,000 full-time students. The college has always adhered to the "student-oriented" school-running philosophy, focusing on cultivating "two strong" application-oriented undergraduate talents with strong independent learning ability and strong practical ability, and has cumulatively sent more than 40,000 outstanding students for social development. Over the years, the employment rate of graduates, the results of various subject competitions, and the one-time pass rate of the English major level 4 have been among the best in similar colleges and universities. In the 2023 "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, the school won 1 special prize and 1 second prize. It won the gold medal in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition for three consecutive years, leading similar colleges and universities in the country. The college insists on taking an application-oriented, regional and characteristic development path. Since the relocation of Cixi to run the school, it has been more actively integrated into the local economy and actively explored and practiced the "two-wheel drive" industry-education integration development model, that is, through the construction of high-quality modern industrial colleges and high-level application research institutes to provide driving force for application-oriented construction, and coordinate the promotion of the college's education and teaching, talent training, scientific research and local services. The college has jointly built 10 industrial colleges, 16 characteristic industry classes, 2 excellent engineer classes, and 355 practice bases with leading regional enterprises and institutions such as Bulls and Xinhai, and established the "Ningbo Small Household Appliances Intelligent Manufacturing Industry-Education Integration Alliance", and has embarked on a distinctive new path of industry-education integration, school-enterprise cooperation and application-oriented transformation. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, the school has successfully obtained provincial key support for 2 modern industrial colleges, 1 industry-education integration alliance, 2 industry-education integration demonstration bases, 2 industry-education integration engineering projects, and 4 provincial industry-university collaborative education projects, achieving a "Grand Slam" of provincial industry-education integration platform projects; 47 projects of industry-university collaborative education and supply-demand matching employment education projects approved by the Ministry of Education, and 3 typical cases of the "School-Enterprise Cooperation, Double Hundred Plan" of the China Higher Education Society. The school-running model and achievements of the Industrial College have been reported many times by mainstream media such as CCTV News, China Education Daily, and Zhejiang Daily, playing a good demonstration and leading role. At the same time, the college has established high-level research institutes such as the Institute of Applied Technology and the Institute of Regional Economic and Social Development, and has co-built 6 joint laboratories, medical and engineering intelligent manufacturing research centers, and collaborative innovation centers with high-tech enterprises and medical schools such as Zhongda Lide, Tiansheng Seals, Ningbo Second Hospital, and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Harbin Engineering University; co-built the Intelligent Home Appliances Science and Education Innovation Park with the Home Appliance Characteristic Town; jointly built the Ningbo Home Appliances Trusted Blockchain Platform with Alibaba; and co-built the "Translation Silk Road Translation Research and Language Service Center" with the Translation Center of the Gansu Provincial Foreign Affairs Office; undertaken 6 major projects of Ningbo's "Science and Technology Innovation 2025" and 2 key R&D plans and "Unveiling the List and Leading" projects in Ningbo; and was approved as the Zhejiang Smart Home Appliances Industry Brain, Zhejiang Soft Science Research Base, Ningbo University Collaborative Innovation Center, Ningbo Industrial Internet Demonstration Platform and other scientific and technological innovation platforms. Continue to deepen multi-faceted and multi-level school-government-enterprise cooperation, empower industrial development, and form a win-win situation. The college actively promotes open education, continuously optimizes the layout, gathers resources, strengthens international exchanges and cooperation, and steadily improves its international education capabilities and levels. The undergraduate education program in advertising, jointly organized with Juniata College in the United States, has been officially approved by the Ministry of Education; the Ningbo "Belt and Road" Spanish Language and Culture Center has been jointly established with the School of Hotel Management of the University of the Balearic Islands in Spain; and the first International Chinese Test and Training Center in Ningbo has been jointly established with the Research Institute of the Chinese Language Resource Development and Application Center. The college has also established friendly relations with more than 40 universities (institutions) in the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan, China, and carried out multi-level cooperation projects such as Sino-foreign cooperative education, undergraduate and master's degree programs, and mutual recognition of credits. At present, the college is in an important strategic opportunity period of deep transformation and development.
