Introduction: Hawassa University is a comprehensive university in Ethiopia, located in Hawassa, Southern Nationalities State, about 278 kilometers from the capital Addis Ababa.

Overview: The school has 7 campuses, more than 11,000 faculty and staff, more than 32,000 students, 9 colleges and 3 research institutes, more than 300 professional programs, and has established cooperative relations with more than 190 institutions.

History: Its predecessor was Debubu University, which was established by government announcement on December 22, 1998. It was originally composed of Hawassa Agricultural College, Ondoginit Forestry College, and Dila Teacher Education and Health Sciences College. On February 17, 2006, Debubu University was renamed Hawassa University. On May 23, 2011, Hawassa University was reorganized in Hawassa City.

Establishment time: It was originally established in 1998 as Debubu University and officially changed its name to Awasa University in 2006.
