Shougang Institute of Technology was founded in 1978. Its predecessor was the branch of Beijing Iron and Steel Institute. In 1994, Shougang Institute of Technology was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Since its establishment, the institute has trained more than 19,000 full-time undergraduate and junior college graduates for Shougang and society. "School-enterprise cooperation and integration of work and study" are the distinctive characteristics of the institute's talent training. In Beijing, the capital city where various types of universities are gathered, the employment rate of college graduates has reached more than 99% for several consecutive years. In January 2014, Shougang Institute of Technology was rated as an "advanced collective in continuing education management" by the Organization Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. In 2015, Shougang Institute of Technology was awarded the honorary title of "Capital Civilized Unit" for the period of 2012-2014. In 2016, "Beijing Institute of Safety Production Management" was established at Shougang Institute of Technology. In 2016, the "Beijing Professional Continuing Education Base Project" passed the review and acceptance. The institute is located on the northwest side of Jinyuan Bridge on the Fifth Ring Road in the west of Beijing, adjacent to the Shougang Sports Building, covering an area of 167,000 square meters and a construction area of 108,000 square meters. It has modern teaching facilities such as training center, student computer room, professional classroom, laboratory, network center, etc. The total bandwidth of campus network export is 200Mbps, the amount of digital resources is 27TB, and the library has 350,000 books; student apartments, restaurants, 400-meter standard sports field, various ball sports venues and student activity center and other supporting facilities for running schools are complete. The college currently has 7 secondary colleges including School of Management, School of Computer and Media Arts, School of Nursing and Preschool Education, School of Metallurgical Safety and Environmental Protection, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Basic College and School of Continuing Education. There are 31 higher vocational majors such as information technology, safety and environmental protection, economic management, intelligent manufacturing, social sports, preschool education, and nursing; there are 12 adult college education majors such as mechatronics technology, human resources management, and computer application technology. Every year, the school recruits students from the society in a unified manner, and the enrollment forms include unified enrollment, independent enrollment, single examination and single enrollment, and adult examination enrollment. At present, there are 2,372 full-time higher vocational students and 1,200 students in adult college education. Every year, more than 10,000 personnel of all levels and types are trained for enterprises. From 2014 to 2018, the college won 6 Beijing Higher Education Comprehensive Teaching Achievement Awards, 3 China Metallurgical Education Society Higher Education Scientific Research Achievement Awards, 3 National Natural Science Foundation of China Research Projects, 5 China Iron and Steel Association Micro-Course Competition Awards, 1 Beijing-level Excellent Course, and 5 Beijing Excellent Textbooks. Won 15 awards in the Beijing Teachers Information Teaching Competition. In the National Vocational College Student Skills Competition, College Student Mathematical Modeling and other competitions, the college won 8 national first prizes, 20 national second prizes, and 10 Beijing first prizes. Two teachers of the college were awarded the honorary title of "Beijing University Teaching Master", and 4 teachers were awarded the honorary title of "Beijing Model Worker". In recent years, the college has actively adapted to the changes in the capital's industrial structure adjustment and the structural demand for high-end technical and skilled talents, and carried out professional transformation. Focusing on the shortage of nursing and preschool education talents in Beijing, nursing and preschool education majors are opened; serving the development of the Beijing Winter Olympics and ice and snow sports, social sports (ice and snow sports) majors are opened; adapting to the construction of livable cities in the capital and the development of Shougang industry, the mechanical and electrical majors have successfully transformed into urban comprehensive service majors; in line with the digital entertainment industry of Zhongguancun Shijingshan Park, the digital media majors characterized by virtual reality and digital media industries are focused on; focusing on the safe operation of the capital, we will make every effort to build a Beijing safety production training base, and identify new professional groups such as urban safety production, health and nursing, social sports, digital media technology, intelligent manufacturing, and preschool education, with service majors accounting for more than 80%. Looking to the future, the college will further transform to new industries, to diversified transformation, and to high-end transformation according to the needs of the construction of the "four centers" of the capital and the transformation and development of Shougang, and realize connotation development, characteristic development, and differentiated development. The college was established based on Shougang, facing the west of Beijing, serving the capital, deeply integrating industry and education, and attaching equal importance to academic education and training, and strive to build a first-class domestic vocational college.
