Harbin Institute of Information Engineering was founded in 1995. In 2002, it was approved by the Heilongjiang Provincial People's Government as a full-time general higher vocational college and renamed Harbin Huaxia Computer Vocational and Technical College. In 2014, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to a private general college at the undergraduate level and renamed Harbin Institute of Information Engineering. The school currently has two campuses, and the main campus is located in the University Town of Harbin East (Binxi) National Economic and Technological Development Zone.
