The West Lake is full of gold and sparkling water, while the Elephant Mountain is covered with green and dotted with egrets. The predecessor of the China Academy of Art was the National Academy of Arts. In 1928, Mr. Cai Yuanpei, then president of the university, chose the site of the West Lake in Hangzhou and founded the first comprehensive national higher art institution, the National Academy of Arts, opening a new chapter in China's higher art education. As the first national higher art school with the most complete disciplines and the most orderly scale in China, the China Academy of Art has moved its site and changed its name several times in its more than 90 years of development history, from the National Academy of Arts, the National Hangzhou Art College, the National Art College, the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts to the China Academy of Art. During this process, two clear academic threads have always overlapped. One is the idea of "integration of Chinese and Western cultures" represented by the first president Lin Fengmian, and the other is the idea of "innovation from tradition" represented by Pan Tianshou. They used academic research as a public tool, encouraged each other, and worked in parallel, creating a relaxed environment that is conducive to artistic innovation and the healthy development of humanities. This has become the most important tradition and feature of this school. As a research and teaching university, China Academy of Art has always stood at the forefront of contemporary art, with a sense of historical mission and responsibility to revitalize national art, adhering to the school motto of "being vigorous, respectful, integrated and far-reaching", advocating the academic thought of "diversity, interaction and harmony", creating a talent training environment of "morality, learning, art, theory, ancient and modern, China and foreign countries", focusing on the two core tasks of "building a world-class fine arts discipline characterized by Oriental studies, and establishing a new humanistic education system with artistic creation as the core and social aesthetic education as the responsibility", updating the campus, inheriting concepts, expanding disciplines, reorganizing departments, forming a pattern of "five disciplines and ten + colleges", establishing a practical teaching system with "working first, reading to nourish the mind" and "the heart of the people, sharing beauty together", promoting the spirit of philosophers and craftsmen, building a university vision, and cultivating outstanding talents with both moral integrity and art, who are proficient in morality, art, theory, ancient and modern, China and foreign countries. China Academy of Art is a university jointly established by Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Its discipline and professional construction achievements rank first among art colleges in China: the school and the fine arts discipline have been selected as the national "Double First-Class" first-class discipline construction universities for two consecutive rounds; in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, fine arts and design received an A+ rating (ranked first in the country), art theory received an A- rating, and drama and film received a B+ rating; in the fifth round of national discipline evaluation, the school achieved excellent results and made steady progress; in the "Double 10,000" construction, 26 of the 28 undergraduate enrollment majors were national first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 2 majors were approved as provincial first-class undergraduate major construction points. Currently, there are three postdoctoral research mobile stations for fine arts, design, and art theory. As the first national civilized campus unit, the campus covers an area of more than 1,230 acres, spanning Hangzhou and Shanghai, with five major campuses: Nanshan, Xiangshan, Zhangjiang, Liangzhu, and Xianghu. The Nanshan campus, built in 2003, has achieved a modern interpretation of the Ink Art Academy. The Xiangshan campus, put into use in 2007, gave birth to the artistic homeland. The Liangzhu campus will be opened in 2021. The unique campus has become a new business card for Hangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city. There are more than 10,000 students and about 1,000 faculty and staff. Bravely climb the peak of art and bravely shoulder the mission of the times. The China Academy of Art will always be guided by General Secretary Xi Jinping's exhortation to "accelerate the construction of a world-class art academy that embodies the highest level of research and teaching in Chinese culture and art", uphold the "pioneering journey of Chinese art, the core site of art education, and the era declaration of the academy's spirit", continue to promote the development of a world-class art academy, carry forward the Chinese spirit in the grand pattern of world art, build a new era of literature, art and academic peaks, work tirelessly to cultivate socialist builders and successors with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor, and make greater contributions to striving to create a pioneer province in socialist modernization, comprehensively build a modern socialist country, and realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
