Yanshan University is a national key university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is a national first-class university and a world-class discipline construction university supported by Hebei Province, and a member of the Beijing High-tech University Alliance. The school originated from Harbin Institute of Technology, which was founded in 1920. In 1958, Harbin Institute of Technology responded to the call of the country and moved heavy machinery and related majors to Fulaerji District, Qiqihar City, an industrial town, and established Harbin Institute of Technology Fulaerji Branch. The branch was first named Harbin Institute of Technology Fulaerji Heavy Machinery College and later renamed Harbin Institute of Technology Heavy Machinery College. In 1960, it became an independent school named Northeast Heavy Machinery College and became a university directly under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1978, it was identified as a national key university. From 1985 to 1997, the school moved south to Qinhuangdao City as a whole. In 1997, it was approved by the former State Education Commission and renamed Yanshan University. In 1998, it was transferred from the former Ministry of Machinery Industry to Hebei Province, and was jointly built by the central and local governments, with Hebei Province as the main management. In 2000, Hebei Light Industry Management School was merged into Yanshan University. The school has 34 majors selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. In 2016, as one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, the school's engineering major national certification accepted the observation and inspection of international experts from the Washington Accord, supporting my country's formal joining of the Washington Accord International Engineering Education Organization. The school currently has 18 engineering majors that have passed the engineering education professional certification (assessment), indicating that the quality of talent training in these majors has been internationally recognized. The school covers an area of 4,000 acres and a building area of 1.25 million square meters. There are currently 40,000 students in general higher education. There are 3,200 faculty and staff, including 2,200 full-time teachers, including 568 professors and 678 associate professors. There are 451 doctoral supervisors among the teachers. There are 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 member of the State Council Discipline Evaluation Group, 7 candidates of the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 17 distinguished professors of the "Changjiang Scholars Program", "Changjiang Scholars Program" Chair Professors, "Changjiang Scholars Program" Young Scholars, and 27 winners of the National Outstanding Youth and Excellent Youth Science Fund. The school has 12 postdoctoral mobile stations, 14 first-level doctoral disciplines, 2 doctoral professional degree categories, 30 first-level master's degree disciplines, 19 master's professional degree categories, and 73 undergraduate majors. It has formed a discipline pattern with engineering as the main subject, and economics, law, education, literature, science, management, art, and interdisciplinary disciplines. It has 5 national key disciplines, 5 national defense characteristic disciplines and 16 provincial key disciplines. Four disciplines of engineering, materials science, chemistry, and computer science are among the top 1% in the world in the ESI ranking. In the fourth round of national subject evaluation, 8 subjects received B or above evaluation results, among which mechanical engineering was A-, ranking in the top 10% in the country, and materials science and engineering was B+, ranking in the top 20% in the country. The university has a graduate school and 18 directly affiliated colleges, namely the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Science and Engineering (School of Software), the School of Economics and Management, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, the School of Liberal Arts (School of Public Administration), the School of Marxism, the School of Science, the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, the School of Art and Design, the School of Vehicle and Energy, the School of Physical Education, the Liren College, the School of Continuing Education, the School of International Education and the Silesian School of Intelligent Science and Engineering. The university has built the National Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Preparation Technology and Science, the National Key Laboratory of Key Technology of Lifting Machinery, the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Cold-rolled Strip Equipment and Process, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Advanced Manufacturing Forming Technology and Equipment, the National Defense Key Discipline Laboratory of Mechanical Structure and Materials Science under Extreme Conditions, the National Demonstration Base for the Training of Innovative Talents, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Provincial and Ministerial Cooperative Innovation Center, the National Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution, 4 Hebei Provincial Cooperative Innovation Centers, 60 provincial and ministerial science and technology innovation platforms (including co-construction with external units) and 26 provincial and ministerial social science research bases; it has the National University Science and Technology Park and Yanshan University Press. The university has an internationally advanced level in the research fields of heavy machinery complete equipment, metastable materials science and technology, parallel robot theory and technology, fluid transmission and electro-hydraulic servo control technology, industrial automation control theory and technology, precision plastic forming technology, large forging forging process and heat treatment technology, mechanical structure and material science under extreme conditions. Since 2000, the university has won 20 national science and technology awards, including 2 first prizes, 9 second prizes, 5 second prizes of national technological inventions, and 4 second prizes of national natural sciences. It has undertaken more than 1,300 projects of "973", "863", national key research and development plans, National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation. In 2013 and 2014, two scientific research results of the university were selected as "Top Ten Advances in Chinese Science" and "Top Ten Scientific Advances in Chinese Universities". The university actively adapts to the needs of the development of the new era, new technology and new economy, actively promotes the cross-integration and coordinated development of scientific research, and lays out emerging research fields and research directions. With the goal of comprehensively improving the ability of scientific and technological innovation and producing first-class scientific research results, the university focuses on the layout and construction of "four research institutes and three centers", namely the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research Institute, the Marine Science and Engineering Research Institute, the Health Care Industry Technology Research Institute, the Dual Carbon Science and Technology Research Institute, the High-Pressure Science Research Center, the Nano Energy Materials Research Center, and the Special Transportation Equipment Research Center.
