The University of Nottingham Ningbo was established in 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is the first Sino-foreign cooperative university in China with an independent campus and independent legal personality. The report wrote: "Nottingham Ningbo University is a remarkable achievement. It has achieved its mission in less than eight years, allowing Chinese students to receive high-quality higher education without leaving the country. In terms of curriculum, teaching methods, system, language and resource allocation, Nottingham Ningbo University adopts the school-running model and standards of Nottingham University in the UK. Its academic level and student learning quality are consistent with those of Nottingham University in the UK. The education that students receive is the most British education that can be achieved in China." The review report also specifically pointed out that Nottingham Ningbo University is not simply copying the practices of Nottingham University in the UK, but actively exploring practices that are in line with local actual conditions.
