Jiangsu Vocational and Technical College of Shipping is a full-time general college approved by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and jointly established by the Provincial Department of Transportation and the People's Government of Nantong City. The school is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, a livable garden city in the beautiful Yangtze River Delta region, a famous "hometown of sports", "hometown of education", "hometown of architecture" and "hometown of longevity". The school is affiliated to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Transportation. Its predecessor was the Jiangsu Nantong River Transport School founded in 1960. In 1979, it began to transform into maritime transportation professional education. In 1989, it was renamed Jiangsu Nantong Shipping School. In 1996, it was established as one of the first pilot schools for higher vocational teaching classes in the country. In 2000, it was upgraded to Nantong Vocational and Technical College of Shipping, and in 2020, it was renamed. The spirit of maritime craftsmanship travels through time and space, and maritime vocational education is passed on from generation to generation. For more than 60 years, generations of people in the Navigation Academy have adhered to the maritime education concept of the famous educator Mr. Zhang Jian, with the school motto of "self-encouragement and self-struggle to communicate with China and the West", and rushed to the ocean from here. The school enjoys a high reputation among domestic higher vocational colleges and has a high academic status. It is a construction unit of high-level professional groups with Chinese characteristics, a national high-quality higher vocational college, one of the first national demonstration (backbone) higher vocational colleges, a national demonstration college of transportation vocational education, an excellent college in the evaluation of the talent training level of higher vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education, one of the first demonstration higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province, and one of the first high-level higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province. It is the chairman unit of the National Maritime Vocational Education Group, the chairman unit of the Vocational Education Branch of the China Transportation Education Research Association, and the standing member of the Navigation Branch of the Jiangsu Comprehensive Transportation Society. The school is the vice president unit of the Jiangsu Provincial Association for the Promotion of International Trade and the chairman unit of the Jiangsu Zheng He Research Association. It has been awarded the "Top 50 in China" more than 10 times in terms of comprehensive strength, employment quality, international influence, service contribution, teaching resources, and student satisfaction. In the "2022 Annual Report on the Quality of China's Vocational Education", the school was awarded the "Top 100 Excellent Colleges in the Teacher Development Index of Higher Vocational Colleges", "Top 100 Excellent Colleges in the Student Development Index of Higher Vocational Colleges", "60 Advantageous Colleges in Resource Construction of Higher Vocational Colleges", and "60 Typical Colleges of Service Contribution of Higher Vocational Colleges". It is one of the only 20 higher vocational colleges in the country that have been listed in the four major lists. The school adheres to the school-running positioning of "based on transportation, serving the local area, facing the country, and going to the world", and closely focuses on the national development strategies of "powerful transportation", "powerful ocean", "powerful shipping", "integration of the Yangtze River Delta" and other national development strategies. The school aims to deliver high-quality and high-quality technical and skilled talents for the construction of a comprehensive transportation system, forming a professional layout of "taking water transportation majors as the main body, land transportation majors and aviation majors as the two wings, and coordinated development of various majors". The school has 1 national characteristic high-level professional group construction site, 4 key majors of national backbone higher vocational colleges, 9 national backbone majors, 3 national transportation demonstration majors, and 2 key majors supported by the central government to enhance the development capacity of professional service industries. It is unique among higher vocational colleges in the country. The school campus covers an area of nearly 1,000 acres, and the school building area is more than 370,000 square meters. There are 9 national-level vocational education training bases, 13 provincial-level vocational education training bases, and 6 Nantong key laboratories; there are more than 10 provincial and municipal science and technology service institutions such as the Jiangsu Ship Engineering Technology Research and Development Center; there are 37 on-campus training bases and nearly 300 off-campus internship and employment bases; in cooperation with enterprises, three productive teaching practice ships, "Hai Lan Zhi Zhou", "Changyang Gate" and "Changchun Gate", have been built. Together with Jiangsu Port Group and Jiangsu Ocean University, the three parties took the lead and established a port industry industry-education integration community with nearly 40 units. The Nantong Shipbuilding and Offshore Equipment Industry-Education Consortium was established with the cooperation of Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone and China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., and was rated as a provincial-level municipal industry-education consortium. The school currently has more than 13,000 students, with 7 secondary colleges including Navigation Technology, Marine Engineering, Ship and Ocean Engineering, Transport Management and Economics, Traffic Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing and Information, Humanities and Arts, and 2 public course teaching units including the School of Marxism and the Basic Teaching Department, with a total of 42 majors. The school has jointly established industry colleges with leading companies in the industry, and established 9 industry colleges including Rail Transit, Yihang Aviation, Smart Port, Haishun, JD Smart Logistics, China Merchants Heavy Industry, Sanji Intelligent Manufacturing, Zhongtian, and New Yangtze Field Engineers, to create an industry-education integration community with professional co-construction, faculty exchange, resource sharing, and talent co-education. In accordance with ISO9001 quality standards, the National Maritime Safety Administration and the Norwegian Classification Society quality management rules and other relevant regulations and standards, the school has established and operated four quality management systems, including the education quality system, training quality system, anti-corruption risk prevention and control system, and internal control system, and obtained 6 quality system certificates. The school fully implemented the deployment requirements of the national education administrative department on teaching diagnosis and reform, established a distinctive internal quality assurance system, passed the provincial on-site review, and the diagnosis and reform case was rated as "National Vocational College Teaching Diagnosis and Reform Excellent Typical Case", and was selected into the National Typical Case Compilation and Jiangsu Excellent Case Collection.
