Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology is located in the historical and cultural city of Xi'an. It currently has two campuses, Yanta and Caotang, and a university science and technology park. The Yanta campus overlooks the world-famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda of the Tang Dynasty in the south and faces the world-famous ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty in the north; the Caotang campus is located on Caosi East Road in the High-tech Zone; the university science and technology park is located in the southern section of the Xingfu Forest Belt in the Xi'an High-tech East Development Zone, and is adjacent to the scenic Chanba Ecological Park in the east; the two campuses and the science and technology park cover a total area of more than 3,700 acres. The university has a long history and profound cultural heritage, which can be traced back to the Tianjin Beiyang Western Learning School founded in 1895. In 1956, when the colleges and departments of higher education institutions across the country were adjusted, the civil engineering, architecture, and municipal engineering departments (disciplines) of the former Northeast Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, Qingdao Institute of Technology, and Sunan Industrial College were merged as a whole, accumulating the earliest batch of civil engineering, architecture, and environmental engineering departments (disciplines) in the history of modern higher education in my country. At that time, it was named "Xi'an Institute of Architecture and Engineering". It is the first undergraduate architectural institution in Northwest China, one of the famous "old eight schools" of civil engineering and architecture in my country, and a key university directly under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In 1959 and 1963, the school was renamed "Xi'an Metallurgical Institute" and "Xi'an Metallurgical and Architectural Institute" respectively; on March 8, 1994, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, it was renamed "Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology". In 1998, the school was transferred to the management of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. It is now an implementing institution of the "National High-level University Project" and the "Basic Capacity Construction Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China", and a university jointly built by Shaanxi Province, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. After more than 60 years of construction and development since the merger, the school has been continuously strengthened and has become a multidisciplinary university with civil engineering, environmental municipal engineering, material metallurgy and related disciplines as its characteristics, engineering technology as its main body, and coordinated development of engineering, management, art, science, literature, law, philosophy, economics, and education. The school was awarded the "Special Contribution Award for Architectural Education" by the International Union of Architects (UIA), the "National Advanced Employment Work Unit" by the State Council, and the school party committee was awarded the title of "National Advanced Grassroots Party Organization" by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The school is the first unit approved by the State Council to grant doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees. The school has three original national key disciplines (structural engineering, environmental engineering, architectural design and its theory), and was selected as a national "double first-class" cultivation university in the second round of Shaanxi Province. Architecture was selected as a discipline that is expected to sprint for the national "double first-class" construction. The school currently has 10 doctoral programs, including 8 first-level doctoral degree authorization programs, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization programs, and 9 postdoctoral mobile stations; 44 master's programs, including 25 first-level master's degree authorization programs and 19 master's professional degree authorization programs. The doctoral programs involve two disciplines, engineering and management, and the master's programs involve 10 disciplines, including engineering, management, art, science, law, philosophy, literature, education, economics, and interdisciplinary disciplines, basically covering all undergraduate majors of the school. The school keeps a close eye on the "Double First-Class" construction goals, continuously strengthens the construction of discipline connotation, and has achieved milestone results in discipline development. Disciplines such as architecture, civil engineering, and environmental science and engineering have made important breakthroughs in the fifth round of national discipline evaluation. Four disciplines, including urban and rural planning, landscape architecture, management science and engineering, and materials science and engineering, have achieved expected results. The advantages of the "Architectural Technology" discipline chain group are more prominent. Engineering has entered the top 1 in the ESI rankings worldwide.48‰, materials science, environment and ecology, and chemistry are among the top 1% in the world. Architecture and built environment are among the top 200 in the QS World University Rankings. Six disciplines, including civil engineering, environmental science and engineering, chemical engineering, energy science and engineering, bioengineering, and metallurgical engineering, are included in the "Soft Science World-Class Discipline Ranking". The school currently has 21 colleges and 67 undergraduate majors, including architecture, urban and rural planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, urban underground space engineering, water supply and drainage science and engineering, environmental engineering, engineering management, materials science and engineering, materials forming and control engineering, environmental design, building environment and energy application engineering, building electrical and intelligent, cultural industry management, metallurgical engineering, transportation, historical building protection engineering, business administration, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, computer science and technology, information management and information systems, automation, sculpture, environmental science, visual communication design, engineering mechanics, and social sports guidance and management. 27 majors have been selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 35 majors have been selected as Shaanxi Province's first-class undergraduate major construction sites. 16 majors including architecture, civil engineering, engineering management, urban and rural planning, building environment and energy application engineering, water supply and drainage science and engineering, environmental engineering, materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, computer science and technology, functional materials, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, mining engineering, automation, transportation, and mineral processing engineering have successively passed the national professional evaluation certification. The school has 1 national key laboratory for green buildings, 1 national international science and technology cooperation base, 1 national think tank, 1 national research and promotion center, 2 national and local joint engineering research centers, 1 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center, 1 national technology transfer demonstration institution, 2 scientist spirit education bases, 5 national experimental teaching demonstration centers/virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 3 Class A design institutes. Relying on the school, Shaanxi Province has established the "Shaanxi Institute of Circular Economy Engineering and Technology", "Shaanxi Institute of New Urbanization and Human Settlement Environment", and "Shaanxi Institute of Membrane Separation Technology". At present, the total number of students of all kinds is more than 36,000, including more than 20,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 10,000 postgraduates, more than 200 international students, and more than 1,900 full-time teachers. There are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of the South African Academy of Sciences, 1 foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, 10 alumni academicians, 1 national teaching master, 1 national model teacher, 4 national excellent teachers, 3 national model teachers, 1 national excellent educator, 2 national May 1st Labor Medal winners, 5 National Outstanding Youth Fund winners, 4 National Outstanding Youth Science Fund winners, 8 "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" selected, 9 national "Hundred Thousand Talents Project" selected, 14 members of the National Teaching Steering Committee, and 7 members of the National Evaluation and Certification Committee. There are 4 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the country, 3 young and middle-aged science and technology innovation leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 winners of the China Youth Science and Technology Award, 14 people who enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council, 2 candidates for the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, 1 team approved for the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Innovative Research Group Science Fund Project, 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams in national universities, and 3 national-level teaching teams, forming a faculty team with a neat lineup, reasonable structure, excellent quality and strong strength. Since 2010, the school has won 2 second prizes in the National Technological Invention Award and 9 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It has won a total of 10 national teaching achievement awards, 3 national excellent teaching material awards, 1 "Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award", 1 selected as one of the "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress in Chinese Higher Education Institutions", 1 Science Exploration Award, and won the first National Innovation Award. The school ranks 20th in the 2022 National College Students Competition Ranking. Over the past 60 years since the merger, the school has taken root in the western part of the motherland, forged the school-running purpose of "inheriting civilization, creating the future, cultivating talents to revitalize the country, and enriching the people with science and technology", condensed the school motto of "self-reliance, honesty, seeking sources, and innovation", and established the fine school spirit of "being honest, solid foundation, simple style, and down-to-earth work".
