Xi'an University of Technology is a university selected in the national "Revitalization Plan for Higher Education in Central and Western China", a university jointly built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Shaanxi Province, a high-level university that Shaanxi Province focuses on building, and a national "double first-class" university in Shaanxi Province. The school is one of the important training bases and scientific research centers for senior professionals in my country's water conservancy, hydropower, and equipment manufacturing industries. The predecessor of the school was Beijing Institute of Technology and Shaanxi University of Technology. The history of the two schools can be traced back to the Beiping Public Commercial Tutorial School founded in 1919 and the National Xi'an Temporary University (later renamed National Northwest United University) established in 1937. In 1972, Beijing Institute of Technology and Shaanxi University of Technology merged to form Shaanxi Institute of Technology, which was affiliated to the First Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1994, the school was renamed Xi'an University of Technology. In 1998, the school was transferred to Shaanxi Province, and the management system was adjusted to co-construction by the central government and Shaanxi Province, with Shaanxi Province as the main management. The school takes the National Beiping Advanced Industrial Vocational School, the predecessor of Beijing Institute of Technology, taken over by the People's Government in 1949, as the starting year of the school anniversary, and May 1 is the school anniversary. The university has three campuses, Jinhua, Qujiang and Lianhu, and one university science park. The school insists on taking discipline construction as the leader, solidly promoting the construction of first-class disciplines, and steadily improving its core competitiveness. The school is one of the first universities in my country to obtain the right to confer doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees. Graduate education began in 1960, and the Graduate School was established in 2011. There are 15 first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points, 27 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, and 13 master's professional degree authorization points, which belong to 8 disciplines including engineering, science, management, economics, law, literature, agronomy, and art, forming a discipline layout with engineering as the main and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. Disciplines such as engineering, materials science, environment/ecology, computer science, chemistry, and agricultural science are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI global discipline rankings. In the "2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities", the school ranks 501-600 among world universities and 89-110 among national universities.
